Having been thoroughly shocked at reading Stylinsam's question further down - and I am so sorry Sam to hear of this happening, that is just sickening - police are useless, do you think we are going to end up having local 'vigilante' gangs of 'nice' people that will do justice on our streets and get the wrong doer's ? Like that film with Charles Bronson in ? Personally I think it will come to that - we are all running out of people/authorities to help in these situations....its a crazy, crazy world....

I really cant see how they're gonna put a stop to this gang violence... i can only see it getting worse.

Unless these kids are taught and disciplined from a young age by their parents and unless schools start to help these kids individually, this extreme crime will always be about.
When I was a kid (I sound like an old timer now!) we had policemen on the beat around the local streets and I don't think there was so much of this mindless violence around. There's supposed to be more police now (according to the government) but god knows where they are.

And, previously, you used to be able to tell kids off in the street if you saw them misbehaving. Of course, now you'd probably get a mouthful of abuse or sued by their parents if you intervened.
I was a troublesome teenager many years ago and had many a good smack around the ear by a policeman (who we had great respect for) and knew most of them on first name terms. Mixed with a rough group of bikers in my 20s but never was violence an issue!! we got into all sorts trouble but never stole anything or hurt anybody. Things have changed so much, kids just don't seem to care who they hurt!
I don't think vigilante groups are the answer, when we have to rely on vigilante groups is when the country sinks even further into the depths of violence and lawlessness.
Whilst I do not condone violence, I do happen to know that the only reason our local wee scrote has modified his behaviour is because he was 'given a taste of his own medcine' by members of his victims families. He has now decided to cease his activities with the promise of a reoccurence in the event of him slipping.
Sometimes the needs of the many are more important than the desires of the few! I do not think it will put off proper villains ( and in some case might agrivate the scrote further) but am appalled that to some, life is very cheap!. Its a disgrace, that any element of society should feel so dienfranchised as to believe this. Is it a warped form of supposed empowerment do you think?, on the behalf of the miscrents that is... do they have no other outlet for proving themselves. Do you think that all the social help and investment in infrastucture for quality activities ,would still not help/ reach the hardest cases?
No dont agree I think that we should reward them with i pods and playstations and plasma tvs and gallons of cider and drugs, you must realise that they cant help themselves and its not there fault and of course give them a big hug when they are threatning you with a knife.
Then after all this find out where they live and go round after dark commatise there moronic parents then break into there bedroom and they will be happily pi ssed and stoned out of there one brain cell listening to the ipod you have given them and transfixed (ow you spell that) to the plasma tv trying to play with there brand new playstation donnated by this very helpfull goverment then to put it blunttly just torture they little crunts to death but before you do that lock them in to do cold turkey for a week.
And I am not a violent person but am starting to grow a moustache ( charles bronson style)
cascarelli, we had a local beat bobby in our village and he scared the living daylights out of the kids. there was never any trouble when P.C Stewart was around. Maybe that's what we're missing, a presence and one that's tough!! these days, they know there's no comeback cause everyone seems afraid to touch em!
