dont mess around with a wart. get wart removal solution from the chemist, it may take a while to work. if not check with g p .

banana skins contain an enyme which kills the virus which creates warts. Saw it on telly. My sone had four verucas and the stuff the doctor gave him was alarming. I spoke to the pharmacist who was very disparaging but

Putting a piece banana skin (removed from the banana soft side onto skin) onto the verucas and covering with a plaster has the verucas gone in under two weeks, they had been there for months before.

It's on my hand, and for you and you only Ratter, I have pulled off the top layer a few times and seen a little hole appear, but the hard skin keeps coming back. I will try the banana trick tho. Thanks all.

Smurfchops, If you delve deeply into that hole you found you will find the little wart maggot, you need to squirt neat iodine into the hole to evict the maggot, when the maggot surfaces, pick it up quickly and drown it, don't hold on to it or it will burrow its way back in again, ignore the screams of the maggot, that's just the iodine smarting. My daughter had terrible warts when she was young and someone told us to rub broad bean pods (The furry stuff inside the pod) On them and it worked. Another way is to spit on them the minute you wake up in the morning, apparently your saliva has a natural, acidic wart murdering quality in it first thing in the mornings! you can get some wart freeze from the chemist also!
