People 'faffing' around

I was decorating a flat at the weekend with another person, lets call him 'mrwarpig' to hide his identity!

We were going to paint the living room, so he goes around and removes all nails from the walls, by this time I have a wall and a half painted. Eventually he is finished and starts to help with the painting. When finished he goes around and puts all the nails etc back in again, this takes some time as the nails were different sizes and he had to find the correct holes. Personally I would have cut in around the nails but there you go.

Also it took him two hours to put up a curtain pole, two hours, unbelievable!!!!

So my question is do you think some people just faff around to avoid doing work?

I would have thought painting round nails was perfectly possible. Wouldn't even matter if you painted them... you might even do them in contrasting colours for added drama. (What else is nail polish for??)

But painting round the sofa seems a bit extreme.

Attention to detail my @rse! In our own home we have pictures but he wont put nails in so they sit in a pile in a bedroom, we have wooden blinds to go up but they sit still packaged in the corner, there are boxes sitting around with his 'tools and stuff' in them that have to go to the shed but he wont do it and I am not allowed as they have to be placed correctly for ease of access, the list is endless.

I think he was just trying to avoid the work.

lager, I completely understand about the tools and it does make sense but I just wish he would do it. the flat we were painting is for renting and quite frankly I am tempted to move into it myself as it is better than the house we live in.

I always remove nails and fill all the holes so I can either put up a lining paper or to sugar soap or rub down the walls will abrasive paper so they are perfectly smooth!!

only when you have a perfectly smooth wall can you even think about decorating it!!

I love DIY. I wouldn't wait for a man to do it, I'd do it myself. Plus I know i'd do a better job of it.

If you want the blind up why are you waiting for, *ahem*, 'mrwarpig' to do it? Did he agree to this in his marriage vows? Does he have as many niggling issues about the way you iron his shirts or cook his chips? (also written into your marriage vows)

champagne I could put up the pictures and the blinds and am competent with a drill etc but there would be no point, he would be out with the spirit level and measuring tape just to check.

We bought a computer desk from Ikea and I assembled it while he was at work, when he came home he had to check that it was put together correctly by shaking it to make sure it was sturdy and then he sat on it and wobbled!
Only then was he satisfied (presumably because it didn't collapse)! If I hadn't put it together it would still be sitting in its box in the corner beside the blinds. Good point about the ironing & food, no, no complaints there.

lol@ warpig, totally sympathise girl, Mr Boo is exactly the same! Just before Xmas we decorated our livingroom, and the pictures he took down before he painted the walls are still stacked up at the back of the room! I'd put them back myself, excet they're ginormous and too heavy for me to lift up.

When he decorated the stairs, it took him 3 years to put the stair rail back on the wall, infact it was only done when I got pregnant and got scared about falling down the stairs.

Back to the livingroom- there's a piece of coving missing in one corner from when we orginally decorated it over 5 years ago!

Mr. puss is ok with DIY, but he never moves anything, Our artificial Xmas tree is still on the landing waiting to go in the loft.

My friend believed her husband when he told her that the paint she'd bought for him to decorate the hallway with, had to "settle" for at least three months before he could use it. It's there, in tins on their hall floor, "settling".

no matter, puss, Christmas is nearly here again. We have a loo in which the wallpaper has been carefully stripped off ready for repainting and... err... nothing. I am thinking of suggesting to those responsible that the job might be worth finishing, especially as we have guests coming soon, but it's only been a month so it's probably too early to provoke a war.
