Hi, im 16 and whenever I am around alot of people I dont know very well and around alot of girls I get so self concsious. Even just walking down the street I cant lift my head up im just so shy! In front of real real good friends I am fine, loud and have fun. But say a girl was next to me I get so shy and self concsious I come across really boring and I only say yes and no lol. In my head im thinking, I MUST SEEM A RIGHT PRAT, WHAT IF I SMELL, WHAT IF .....etc etc. It is really annoying me, to the point i avoid going places with people and am spending to much time on my own and at home. Any help? Thanks. I hate being shy! PS, is there ANY shy girls or anything out there cos all girls to me seem SO CONFIDENT! I feel im never ever gona have a good relationship!

At 16, it is nice to hear a child who has a degree of innocence about her.
Some people are extravert, some introvert. That is a fact of life that is not detrimental.
If I had a 16 year old daughter I would be bloody proud of her if she was conservative and shy as opposed to the brash, 10 Mayfair Light a day, booze drinking, bus-graffitting, pregnant wannabes that I understand exist in some town centres.
Do not worry and be yourself.

Christ you sound like a girl. Keep your head down is my advice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nah seriously transpose all my words for boys and the same applies.
Some women like the brash in your face confident male master, but equally, they like the moody shy kid.
It comes from Freud spin offs. Girls who prefered their dads want a dominant male, girls who prefered their mum want to mother and be kind to the meeker ones.

If you feel shy when you first meet people don't let it worry you too much and don't put pressure on yourself by thinking you should be doing/saying this or that. Act however you feel comfortable, and as you say, once you get to know people you're fine. You sound like a nice person with a sense of humour and people will see that in the long term. Not everyone like immediately in your face people, in fact I think they do most people's heads in so be proud of yourself!
Hi rh, as the others have said it's only natural.
I was probably one of the shyest girls in my whole secondary school - i bloody hated it!!! I've talked about this on AB before when i similar quesiton was asked, but seriously try not to worry about it.
I'm now 22 and still have my pathetic shy moments but confidence comes with experience and in time.

Don't worry about it, you will gradually become more and more confidant, you are fine when you are with your mates, so I don't think you should be worrying about it, a lot of your mates will be feeling the same way as you, but some cover the shyness up by being a bit over the top, a lot of girls will find it very attractive that you are like that, the important thing is for you to be yourself.
