I was walking towards 3 lads on a street corner a few weeks ago, and felt quite intimidated as they all stared at me. When I was closer, one of them just said 'hello,' but I was so uncomfortable with the whole situation, I just walked past. (Not that I would have stopped to chat anyway!) All fairly innocent, and just me being a bit self-conscious perhaps. But as I walked on, saying nothing, one of them called me all sorts of names. What kind of behaviour is that?? I'm probably the same age as their mothers - where's the respect?? A nice hello is one thing if it's friendly, but the whole thing was purposely done to make me uncomfortable. I bet I'm not the only one who's had something like that happen! This isn't a city, or even a big town either - everyone knows everyone here, and there are very few 'imported' children. These scrotes were local.
I imagined all kinds of revenge later on, but as you say JTL - two wrongs and all that......but do we all just sit back and let it happen??
