Right Leg End lets start a fresh, I think you must have been drinking that night as you sent me a Pm and I had no idea who you were, you just kept sending me little pictures of sheep. I asked who you were and you said ask about, you'll soon find out! So I asked! You dont seem to remember that straight. I like to sit on the fence Legend and not get to involved with site politics.

Soz Shanx didnt want to overtake your thread at all.

I'm a Paddy.x
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pikey

I have also read somewhere that the term 'pikey' was used to define a person who was of gyspy stock..but far enough removed (a descendant of) for them not to be known as gypsy. Mr P considers himself a pikey because of this..as he is of Irish gypsy stock from many years ago ;o)

Of course the term 'chav' comes from the Romany word for child..'chavi'.
You know Pippa, I havent grown up in gypsy circles, family have been in houses for a long time now and my dad was even a bank manager. I look like a gypsy cause I have long curly black hair and quite romany features and it was only on asking why I look like I do, that my nan said you are a throw back to our gypsy family. I quite like it.

When I worked in that pub with all the irish gypsies that came in there I wouldnt have dreamed of calling them a pikey. Its offensive. Just like I wouldnt use offensive terms for anyone of anyother race. It was the older families that told me that pikey had alwaysoffended them because it was the English lot using the word to cause them offence.

The travelling community get a bad rap but those who normally focus there hate on them are busy hating muslims at the moment. I think some of this country would have been a lot happier had Hitler actually one the war.
My four grandparents, my mum and dad and my sister are all Irish born and Bred - trust them they had to move over here to have me :( Irish through and through though - if you knew my surname haha!
Kushti Divvas,Goodsoulette!

I agree, it isn't a term I would use and Mr P only used it for himself when we were having a dinner party discussion about gypsy terminology.

He is dark haired and dark skinned. He often wondered why he loved the outdoors so much too ;o)
Did legend get banned again?
Hi everyone, I'm Irish, although I was born in London. Dad was starring in a stage production and Mum wanted to see the show! (true story!) My darling RATTER15 is half Welsh. :o)
I'm scottish but my Dad's from Stockport and we have a welsh surname.
I have prided myself in the fact that i have been told i was half scottish for many years i have been quite proud, until one dark dismall day my nan did my family tree and thrust upon me that my family originated in FRANCE!!!
I was devastaded.
Thanks shanxs,
i hate the french
I reckon there are a fair few English people who originated from France...myself included.

Thanks to the Normans :o)
im Welsh born and bred. My Dad was Irish and my Mum half English, half French. I cant say I hate the Welsh, English, Irish or French, or the Scot's.
