Mole biopsy
10 Answers
i have just come back from the doctors after showing him 3 moles i have. I have had them forever (26 yrs) and i have always been told there is nothing to worry about, but as i have just changed doctors due to moving house i thought i would get them checked again as one of them looks different. The doctor has now put me forward for an operation later today to have one on my back (between my shoulder blades) removed and have it examined for abnormal cells.
My questions are:
1. Anyone else had this done... will it hurt?
2. I have been told i'm having stiches... will i be back to normal this evening?
3. how long do you normally wait for results?
4. If i'm only having it done by the GP does that mean that it is probably nothing to worry about?
Thanks, as you can tell im very nervous.

Is not something that goes very deep so she was fine that day. Area was numbed so no pain and got stitches with a dressing over it so pretty much back to normal that day. She is a bit of a baby and did not complain so you will be absolutely fine.
Hi, please don't worry. You are doing the right thing!!! I had it done many, many years ago. They numb the area so, apart from the injection of anaesthetic which burns a little, you won't feel anything. It will heal quite quickly. Most moles are in and just under the skin, so there no deep hole left. Occasionally they can be deeper, and mine was, but even then you don't feel them taking it out. The fact that this procedure is done at the GP surgery shows that removing the mole is not anything major. As for the results, most are harmless. I can't tell you how long it will take for the results to arrive, but your GP will be able to. So, please don't worry, you will be just fine! All the best :o)
I have had 3 moles removed at different times (I've got LOADS). My doctor removed them as a precaution and told me that there would, in all likelyhood, be nothing to worry about. And, indeed, they were all clear.
There isn't much else I can add aside from the good advice you have received here already. It is a minor procedure, and much better to have done than leaving them.

Hi everyone, i had the mole removed. The doc said it looked very nasty and just in case of and bad cells, he has also 5mm around it too. It was quite deep and i had 7 stitches (which are being taked out in 9 days). I was fine with the op after verything i read on here, only felt the needle and the op only took 1/2 hour. However, 4 hours later and the numbness is wearing off and i'm in agony.
I'm supported up in bed with pillows and surfing the net to keep my mind off the pain. Can't move anywhere due to the pain between my shoulder blades :(
I get the results back in 2 weeks, maybe sooner. The Dr explained about cancer etc and has said that if it did contain abnormal cells then hopefully all has been removed.
I suppose the pain at least stops me worrying about the results.
Thanks for the help before the op guys xxx
