Chop up an onion and leave it a wee dish .in the area of the offending smell. It works really good at taking away all sorts of horrible smells.

incense sticks are about the only thing strong enough really!!

Make sure dead rat is gone and area cleaned with a disinfectant!!!

If you can burn a candle safely that will do the trick, especially a scented one. You have my sympathy nothing worse that the smell of dead rodent.
