Antenatal Classes
24 Answers
Me and my fella are attending our first (of four) antenatal class this evening. Completely unaware of what to expect (!!) etc....
Can anyone enlighten me at all?
Oh and for anyone who cares i had a Growth Scan on Wednesday and baby is back to the "average" size! She's caught up in every aspect, but still has a slightly lower abdomincal circumference (which is fine apparently). She was estimated at weighing 4.4lbs (in comparison to 1.4 lbs last time she was measured!) So chuffed to bits :o)
(Would have posted this in pregnancy but not that many people read that section on a regular basis!)

My antenatal classes were fine, didn't learn much more than I hadn't already found out for myself but they were still useful. Don't be afraid to ask questions - you'll find most people want to ask the same thing but are too scared!
It's also nice if your partner takes an interest - there was one couple at my classes, and he was the one asking all the questions, she didn't say a word. Not at all like my husband who was reluctant to go cos he thought he knew everything anyway.
It's nice getting to see the delivery suite and all that as well as at least then you have some idea of what to expect when you go in! Not so nice was when they passed round the various instruments that sometimes get used, like the forceps or that weird knitting needle thing they use if you need to have your waters broken (like me)!
Enjoy it and let us know how you get on. xxx

Well we went yesterday and unfortunately it did drag on until 9.00! So it's a long day....!! And we were bloody staving by the end of it!
Had a Midwife from New Zealand who will be taking our lessons. She was nice enough, talked a bit too much for my liking and like you said helliebobs i had found the answers to many questions elsewhere in baby books etc.
We had to get in groups and write down questions that we all wanted answered. So we all went through those.
We did the whole AA thing and introduced ourseleves too...!
On the positive side of things though, some of the stuff and explanations she did give were really helpful. Like where we'd feel the pain whilst contracting, our mental state whilst in labour, how the baby exits.
We'll also have a tour of the Maternity Ward during one of the sessions, so hopefully it'll be a bit more "pro-active" in the coming weeks.
(Hey bigmamma - still got the sniffles and have damaged one of my ear drums throughout my cold but feeling much better than i did! Drinking plenty of lemon and honey!! :o))
