Children without sex � the future?

The man who invented the Pill, Professor Djerassi, believes that by 2050 women freezing eggs in their twenties to save until they older will be the norm. Egg freezing technology has advanced greatly over recent years and the option to put off having children until later is readily available. What do you think? Is freezing eggs going against Mother Nature's wishes? Or this a great way for women to have children once they have fulfilled all of their ambitions?

I mean i dont think its fair to put off your child for your career. Thats what I'm being asked and thats my opinion. But I have great respect for people that have children and have to work which is most people nowadays. And I dont agree with these people saying to have a child later because of their careers and saying a parent who works and has a child is less capable. Do you get me?

I'm not sure about IVF, it has helped so many people have children and I have never gone through the heartache of not being able to conceive but I cant help but think when natures taken its course, that's it. There a reason we don't ovulate at a certain age. It all sounds a bit mean when I read it back but thats my feelings about infertility as I feel its natures way of keeping the surplus population down but I think IVF should be reserved for those who cant have children not for those who choose not to until later.

I can imagine the designer babies being the next step away from this.

Why do people get so worried about parents being 'old enough to be grandparents' and having kids? What about children who cannot be looked after by their parents and are looked after by their grandparents instead? Should this be stopped because the grandparents can't 'do as much' as younger carers may be able to?

I don't think anyone is saying that, sophie. That scenario usually happens when a choice is taken away from them..such as parental illness, death etc.

Being a carer and a parent are different situations entirely.

Was quite a good debate yes, you changed my mind on some things. Its funny blokes say girls are more bitchy yet on here it tends to be the men that argue if someone doesn�t agree. :-)

My Dad has always taught me never to argue properly. "Don't resort to name calling, shouting, violence or threatening behaviour because then you have lost."

My mother was a grandmother before she had me. It has not affected my life in any way whatsoever except having a nephew who is 6 months older than me. My other nieces are a couple years younger and we are very close. I was spoiled rotten by my older siblings and my mum was very capable, as was my father. My mum still works, as does my dad. Dads health is failing (heart disease and diabetes) but he is still very active. Mum claims having a child when older has kept her young!

Personally, I am waiting until I am married before having a child. Myself and my partner enjoy a very good lifestyle at present and are not quite ready to give it up. I want to ensure I dont have to work whilst my children are young. My life is planned out for the next few years which involves paying off some debts and putting away some money for myself so I dont have to rely entirely on my partner. I dont take for granted that I will be able to have a child, and given the option to freeze some eggs I would jump at the chance as I dont know what is ahead of me.
