New Grandmother's Rights & Dilema
1 Answers
Has anyone who's a Grandparent ever applied for access/visitation rights, (to their grandchild) and if so, how easy is it? I was contacted earlier this year by my Grandson's (7) mother & told of his existence. Neither my son nor I had any idea prior to this. For a few months all was well, then the mother started messing with the visits ...... at first, just a few hours late, then a day late, then changing her mind so that no visit could take place. I am heartbroken, both at my own sadness at having had 7 precious years of my Grandson's life stolen from us and in not being able to see my Grandson and also at my son's anguish at having further control & mindgames played by this female. He is awaiting legal procedings for parental rights etc., but meanwhile I am at a loss to comprehend what motives this woman has in starting then severing this new relationship. (my son is happy to honour financial responsibility once DNA is confirmed, so that's not an issue). Any help or insight, gratefully received please!

(Parents have no right to know anything about their own children, including where they're living or even whether they're alive or dead, once they've reached the age of 16. So it follows that they'll have no rights to know about the offspring of their children).
A few grandparents are fighting to challenge that position but it's an uphill battle. See here:
