Hi there, I'm making knitted circles. However, I am a competent knitter, but can't quite work out the formular for knitting circles in a variety of diameters.
Can anyone tell me if there is a formula for such a thing? I am planning to knit some in garter stitch and some in stocking, if this makes a difference.
Failing this, i'll have to crochet, but that is a bit loopy for my purposes and I would prefer to knit them.
Cast on 5 on DPNs, knit 1 round, YON after every stitch, knit one round, YON after every 2 stitches, knit one round, YON after every 3 stitches, knit one round, etc. It creates an eyelet spiral every place you YON, but it works very well. You can just keep going until you have the circumference you need .Or you can use a circular needle .
Double pointed needles Mimi ...In other words sock needles ..set of four in whichever gauge for your wool and just keep going round on the stitches I gave you .I have to say though for anything circular a circular needle is much easier .Just remember to use a marker for the beginning and ends of rows .
The pattern is ideal for a bag base because it will spiral out from the middle .
I did actually see a pattern somewhere for the type of bag I think you mean ..if I can find it I will get back to you .
Good Luck with your project .
