Hi, does anyone know how I can get rid of my astigmatism in my eye. I have always used contact lenses for my short-sightness without any problems, however, now I have an astigmatism in my eye my contact lenses are giving my clear vision (especially when using VDU screens) - only my specs are ok as they can deal with the astigmatism, were contacts can't. Does anyone else suffer with this situation, any ideas! (Thanks in advance for your responses).

I think it depends on the severity and shape of your astigmatism - I can wear contacts ok with mine, but my hubby can't - you can still get laser treatment, but it is the more expensive type that you need - the best bet would be to speak to your optician - btw I had hard gas permeable lenses rather than soft ones- don't know if that is better with this condition or not.
I have this and have had for 2 decades, the optician just makes the glass lenses right to correct it, it never even enters my head that it is a problem

Thanks Annie0000, its only affected me recently since the change in perscription. My optician tells me they can't do anything for me, except wear my specs. I would like to have Laser treatment, but very scared it will go wrong, or cause another eye issue either short/long term. Eyes are very precious and I am scared of taking the risk!
I think it depends on how severe it is Dot - my hubbys must be so bad that they can't bend the glass to fit . lol - although I think actually that it is just that it is uneven, so as the lens turns around, it wouldn't sit right - god, between that and having one ear higher than the other which causes problems getting his glasses to sit straight, I think that I will either have to spring the cash for the laser treatment or shoot him LOL

Thanks Dot. My aim is to still be able to continue using my daily contact lenses though. The specs aren't a problem for me.
You might ask your eye professional about toric contact lenses. They correct for astigmatism and I've used them successfully for over 20 years...
I have astigmatism and was told recently by three laser clinics that I am not suitable for surgery no matter how much I am prepared to pay,and contact lenses are not suitable either.

So it's glasses or nothing for me.
