i am unsure of where to post this, but anyway, what are peoples' thoughts on communication on line? its intended purpose? (if indeed their is one) politeness theories:positive/negative face the 'need/desire' to communicate on line? (again,if applicable) the purpose intended through communication? (again,if applicable and perhaps context dependant) also the ideas of ambiguousness and persona in communication?(this can be looked at in whichever context)

persona, personality and any humour are normally added to convey aspects of the person talkings personality. the context this is taken in is at the descretion of the recipient

my question is more a look at communication in its larger sense, for instance politeness theories, and the theory of face and the analysis of conversation/communication as an effective 'purpose'. i have studied this area (in my uni course class) and i thought that ab was a debate site, and therefore i assumed 'you/i' exchanged responses. Although maybe i have to stop using the words, 'in whichever context' as it could sometimes raise too many problems, but i always thought opening the question was a good thing?!
