Seasonal Hayfever/Asthma
17 Answers
I presume I'm not the only one who suddenly gets hayfever and asthma at this time of year, i.e. the end of June onwards for a couple of months. Does anyone have any idea what is in the air that causes it? I don't get it anywhere else or at any other time of the year, so it's not the usual things that are in the air all the time.

People mow their lawns and cut their hedges in summer, and there are lots of flowers coming into bloom. Even the rain doesnt help as much as you would think because each rain droplet hits the flower and makes more pollen shake off into the air. It also makes the plants and flowers grow even more and leads to more cutting or pollenation. You can help alleviate it by eating local honey (bees that have collected pollen from the plants around you, and made honey from it, which when ingested can help desensitize your body to those particular allergens) and also try hypnotherapy to help you to not accept being allergic any more. There are also homeopathics available to help, alongside the conventional allergy medicines. HTH

Yes, but *what* pollen? I don't get it in the spring (or the autumn or the winter), and I also don't get it anywhere else. Well, let me clarify: it started in France, some years ago. I have the problem in the U.K. I don't have it in South Africa, New Zealand, the U.S., so it must be something that flowers here but not elsewhere. What could it be? The rain did help to some extent, in that it held off until a day or two ago. I have tried local honey - and it's expensive! - I don't know if it really works. I am a *great* believer in Homoeopathic remedies, but it would help if I knew what the actual allergen was that I wanted to counteract homoeopathically. Someone suggested I go to a doctor, but I am REALLY allergic to doctors! :o) Tenerife is a great idea, NOT the south though... good grief!

I get hayfever quite bad at certain times in the year. I find that going near to the trees does me.
I usually take tablets and stay well away from trees. Unlucky that i work in a building in the middle of a forrest!
It has been suggested that i come and go from work wearing an air tight suit but i can't afford an air tight suit, can i?

crossroads: I just looked that one up. 29.95?? Wow. Does it last you through the season? But it made me go and look again at a Potters nasal spray that's been hanging around the house called AllerClear - it's also made from salt (in this case, Dead Sea salt) and something called Dexpanthenol, which appears to be a form of Vitamin B5 or Pantothenic Acid. I just squirted some up my nose and it cleared it. Now the other side's blocked, so I'm going to try that one :o)
Hey, legend007, I *love* Tenerife. I've spent mucho time there, admittedly mostly in el norte. But I have seen a lot of the island. Perhaps the proximity of Los Cristianos to Playa de las Americas has made me not really want to explore it :o) Have you climbed to the top of Teide? I don't think you're allowed to now...
