I recently coloured my hair to cover some greys. I have mousey brown hair which lightens naturally in the sun and with the help of a few highlights in the summer. I tried save a few pounds and do it myself but it has a red/orange tinge to it now? Why has this happened can anyone tell me. I have tried a few different products but the result is always the same. How can I get rid of this red glow?
At this stage, it's time to get professional help - have a word with your local salon, and explain the situation. They are used to repairing this kind of damage, and will probably be able to assist.,
the red tone you got is because you chose a shade too light for yuor natural color, it's happened to me, too. one way to solve it is to get a hair color remover kit (it will give you a completely orange color, but do not panic, that is normal), then apply a color that is only a shade or two different from yours. you can go to a salon,it might cost you an eye.
Hold on, I have it on good authority that I left it to develop longer than I should have! Although it says 20 minutes, because of my hair structure, it only needed 5..... there you have it. Thanks for all your suggestions.
Pink shoe, use VO% colour mousse in Silver blonde - it works wonders for getting rid of brassy tones. Next time you highlight, leave the product in for longer, it goes through a red/ orange stage before it takes on a whiter blonde. If you have red in your hair though then whatever bleach you use (even in a salon) your hair will have an orange tint to it.
I know it's too late but I just wanted to say never use 'Sun In' hightlighting spray. My hairdresser says it's so unpredictable that she won't even touch someone's hair if they've used it!
