I'm aware I'm probably opening a can of worms with this post, but still...

There's an article in a magazine i read today about a mother who lets her 7 year old Daughter learn pole dancing. In the town where she lives they run a class calle "Pole Brats" teaching kids from 6-17 how to do pole dancing. The woman who runs the group says there's nothing sexual about it, and she blames strip clubs for placing a stigma on pole dancing, and that those kind of clubs shouldn't exist. She insists its just a fun way for kids to get fit.

The article in question carries a picture of the 7 year old, admittedly dressed in respectable pink shorts and a vest top, with the pole between her legs in a pose that would be considered quite seedy if it were an adult woman in skimpy shorts.

SO my question is this, do you think its a bad idea for little girls to do pole dancing - does it promote paedophilia, as some people have suggested, or is it really just harmless fun?

P.S. BOO - I'm glad to say that none of our granddaughters like those Bratz dolls either.
Totally inapproriate. Probably the same parents who allow them to wear thongs and tshirts with bite me on.
John...make believ c o c k? thats a bit extreme, its a piece of metal it's no different to a kid swinging around a firemans pole in a playground at their local park. Just because the setting is different doesn't mean the kids will be doing anything different to what they would be doing had they not have been in a class environment...have i worded that right? :o s

I too Kickbox on a regular basis and generally quite fit but pole dancing tones muscles other exercise cant reach. If a child was swinging on a poll in a playground would you really see that as a make believe c o c k? No.

Has anyone read the opinions of the people on the daily express article?

do any men attend the poledancing classes?
Question Author
would mean be able to do pole dancing? i mean, wouldn't their, er..."lad" get in the way?
Mr B totally appreciate your opinion but I have a pole at home any my 6 year old niece goes on it...why is that wrong?

I honestly dont see the harm in it at all, it keeps her fit and she enjoys it, the fact is it's in a totally safe in a controlled environment I'd rather have that than her running aournd the streets.

But I guess everyone has their opinions and mine just seems to be in teh minority :o)
Yeah men have their own classes youu can set a pole up in your own home and exercise in the privacy of your own home although they are about 150 (Its called an X pole if you're interested)

Peter Andre did it recently apparently.
thats almost as bad as that stupid woman who dresses her daughter like Jordan and bleaches her hair! I wouldn't let a young child do it no way.
if there's no sexual connotation with them, why are they called X poles them?
It's just the name of the company it's based on the way the pole supports itself -

honestly guys try it, buy one and lets your kids try it. There is nothing sexual about poll dancing, its the clubs and the industry that makes it sexual. It's like saying that letting a kid suck an ice pole is sexual because if a female adult did that to her partner that could be interperated as something else...do you see what I'm saying?

It's merely how you percieve it that makes it sexual not what it is
-- answer removed --
the problem i have DJerba is that lollipops were designed for children to eat, it's only an adults mind that can see something sexual in it when it's eaten for a partner. Whereas (i'm willing to be proved wrong here) a pole for dancing around/ on was for sexual gratification and nothing else.
I don't see a picture of ittle girls on that website DJerba, only a woman!
Well what happened to good old ballet or swimming or walking?? There are so many ways for youngsters these days to keep fit? Perhaps we take too much notice of it, I'm sure it is just a fad that will wipe itself out when the chips and mucky D's present themselves.
I see what your saying Djerba.
Although i dont agree with you i respect your opinion.
Wait until your daughter grows up a little bit and brings mates back and they are recording her on their mobiles and it gets on the internet.
Would you still say you wouldnt mind her doing that then?
Just a scenario...
Boo, a pole - used for pole dancing - is nothing more than a firemans pole that you find in a childrens playground - a play ground used for childrent o play in or that fireman would use personally I see nothing sexual in that in the slightest.

Smudge - the pole I put the link up for is for adults thats why there are no children on that particluar site. I dont know what type of pole that particluar teacher uses..also that was for John incase he wanted to get practicing in his living room ;o )

Mr B - It's highly unlikely that would happen, its not a toy its a piece of exercising equipment. If that was to occur I would have to deal with that then.

We are just going to have to agree to disagree?

I think that pole dancing at this age is fine for children, as its just play and exercise. It is only in a different context that some people percieve it as erotic. That some people may mis interpret child play into some sort of sexual behaviour, says something about those people.
No one would want to put a child at risk of abuse, but paedophiles do not need permission (such as pole dancing) to prey on children. I think it just reflects the notion that children somehow should protect themselves from predators and if abused somehow they failed not to be attractive. If someone is inclined to abuse a child they will, and come up with the lies to excuse themselves.
Even if a child was to be sexually inviting it is no excuse for an adult to act upon this behaviour.

bye way would it be seedy if a bloke had his legs around a pole?
