Just feeling sorry for m'self...

Hi All. Was at the doc today as I've had a lot of pain lately. Turns out a tooth that is missing a filling has infected my jaw, cheekbone and the right hand side of my face.

I asked him if that could also cause the discomfort on my spine, and it turns out that it wouldn't, but I also have shingles...

Feeling really down just now, so can i have a little sympathy and a few 'shake out of it man' comments please?

Oh, and by the way - the next time you think about complaining about the NHS: a lot of you will know I'm Irish. Our system of health is somewhat different to yours. I had to pay the doctor �50 (�30??), and then go to the chemist. My prescription cost �284 (~�180). I'll get some of this back eventually, but next time you get hit with the �6.65 prescription charge count your blessings!

Shingles is cr@ppy - I had it once, didn't get it diagnosed for ages and then couldn't get anything prescribed as it was too late, apparently. I couldn't sleep much, so I really sympathise. That, and a monster toothache...good grief, you poor chappie!

Whickerman you have my complete and total sympathy. I know first hand what that infection is like. Mine got so bad that my jawbone had actually started to liquefy....no word of a lie. It had apparently been building up for a long, long time.

I had been to the dentist several times to complain of discomfort and was told there was nothing wrong! So over a period of a couple of years it just got worse until suddenly an abscess appeared which rapidly spread along my gum line, up the side of my nose and around my eye socket. My eye closed with the swelling, there was no definition on that side of my face because it was so hugely swollen (mine was on the right side too) and I couldn't even touch my tongue on the roof of my mouth because of the pain. It was so bad I was nearly tempted to take a stanley knife to my gums!!!

The dentist had to drill a hole up through my tooth and out through the root to drain the infection and he injected anaesthetic directly into the abcess through the roof of my mouth. That injection was the single most distressing and painful thing I have ever gone through and that includes childbirth. I was unaware that such pain existed without making you pass out. I screamed, I cried, I was beside myself with grief!!! That was followed up by 8 months of weekly trips to the dentist until it was healed enough for an apicectomy, root canal filling and a crown.

So Whickerman I do indeed know where you are coming from and I hope to God that you get sorted before yours ever goes that far. And to have shingles on top of that...oh boy....I really do feel for you!

Yes you can have lots of sympathy - an infected jaw is bad enough without having shingles as well and having to pay that much for medicine just adds insult to injury.
I have just made some scrummy chocolate eclairs ....

Hickerman, you must be feeling really low at the moment with everything that is happening to you. Do you have someone close to help you out? I can't begin to think how you must be feeling. How we take being well for granted! Let us know how you are, take care xxx

Oh poor you!, I have had an infected gum,cheekbone and jaw and it isnt a nice thing at all!!!

I also have had horrible dental issues. Luckily my teachers' union has a decent dental plan, so no more letting it got because of finamces. I don't know about the shingles, except they are in the Chicken Pox family.

Have the cake and eat it too. (Though offering cake to a person with teeth problems seems cruel lol)

Snap out of it, pull yourself together and at least pretend to be vaguely manly as opposed to just sitting there stuffing yourself with cake... which incidently will really help your teeth!

Oooch ouch !!! Your poor soul , you must be feeling rotten , I feel sorry for you , and what an enormous bill , that must make it hurt even more . I do hope you are being looked after and get well soon . :-)

Shingles is rotten and you must be suffering but don't be tempted to have any alkiolic drinks with the pain killers, we are lucky here and we should all be thankful, it must be like being on holiday when you need a doctor and thinking , 'there goes the spending money' .

Is someone taking special care of you anyway? You need to relax, shingles can be exacerpated (sp) by nerves.
