If gay men( and I hate to use that word) prefer their own sex and yet some would like to adopt children, just how exactly do they see the womens role who is obviously an essential factor of increasing the populous.

I wouldn't have said 'shot down in flames'. I'll bet a large majority of the population agree with what Spock wrote, but are too nervous to say it (see political correctness). Nowadays if you hold a conservative or traditional view on anything you get the brigade on your back yapping on at you to 'justify yourself' or 'supply a reasoned debate to support your views' etc etc.

There are soooo many children already in the care system, which itself fails them, by sheer weight of numbers rather than anything else.

Instead of staying in these grim places until they are turfed out onto the streets at 16, wouldn't it be a good idea to give them a warm, loving, safe and caring environemt in which to live ?

If gay couples can provide this, why not let them ?

There are enough women in this country giving thoughtless birth to babies which they will ultimately fail to provide any couple with a child !

If a child is loved and cared for and brought up respectable with what some might say old fashioned values (such as please and thank you) to name but two then I really do not think it should matter whether it is a gay couple. I have seen some very affluent and what you would call 'NORMAL' people with the most dreadful attitude to rearing a child. If any of you have been unfortunate enough to watch a programme on MTV called my super sweet 16 then you will know what I mean. I think what some are implying is that if a gay couple have children then they too will turn out gay, unfortunately it doesn't work like that and if anyone things that by banning gay couples it will eventually eradicate homosexuality then they are sadly mistaken. I have to admit before I had my children I did turn my nose up at the thought of children being brought into 'that' environment, however 7 years down the line and I now have two children of my own, I know that to be a good parent involves everything from nutrition, listening and just making yourself available to them. When you see a family at the school gates or in the park and Dad is effing and blinding and Mum is dishing out the coke and sweets, that doesn't make them good parents just because they are heterosexual. Parenting is the hardest job in the world and I am certainly not without fault and holier than thou but I want my kids to be decent honest people and if a gay couple want that for a child too then who are we to argue of question?
