my daughter is 18 and we have just been told she has 11cm septated cyst on her right ovary,what will happen?

You must be very worried karencutie. From what I have seen on the web a septated cyst mean that it has compartments. A cyst is just a collection of fatty tissue. However, your doctor should not have left you so badly informed. I assume that arrangements have been made to biopsy or ultrasound. I'm sure you're thinking it might be cancer........make a big noise at the surgery and don't take no for an answer. If anything is wrong the sooner the better is the key. Dont quote me on this but when I went for a scan cos of ovarian cysts, I asked my mum(ex~gynae) about it. I think they take a septated cyst out, via laparoscopy maybe, and then they will send it off to be tested. I cant imagine they have just left it at that, the wheels are probably in motion.

They should remove the cyst/s via laparoscopic surgery like goodsoulette said,my sister had this condition and had a few surgeries as hers kept recurring,she even had one surgery whilst pregnant with her now 21 year old son. Eventually as hers kept recurring they removed her ovaries but not until she was in her late 30's. I also had ovarian cysts when I was 17 but I had small clusters of 2cm ones,they cleared up on their own before my surgery was even booked and i've had no problems with them since. I wouldn't worry too much as the operation is very simple and quick to recover from.
