Why do grown adults continually step out in front of cars deliberately, wrecklessly, knowing you have to slam the anchors on and care not a jot ! Its what they teach their kids NOT to do under any circumstances. Seems to happen to me around 5 times per week these days. Some of them even look directly at me as they do it as if to stick their fingers up to the Highway Code.
This type of thing makes me very nervous. It's not just kids, many adults saunter across the road looking at you and you have to slow down suddenly. It is almost like they simply assume you will stop, it seems that they never fear for their safety and rely purely on the quick reactions of the driver. If I was crossing the road I wouldn't be too sure the driver was going to react in time, so I take care when crossing. It is very unnerving. Hate it.
They also cross the road at an 'angle' if you know what I mean, they dont walk straight over to the other side, its like theyre out their face lol, so it takes them even longer to cross. Old and young alike. I will soon have to put a 'swear box' on the dashboard.
The best place to watch this selfish suicidal pig-ignorant behaviour is at West Croydon where Tramlink crosses the road. The quick look, oh yes I can probably get across, I'll pretend to hurry so you notice that I have made a complete prick of myself. I wish the trams would MOW them down more often. What is more important - your life, or getting to the shops 10 seconds sooner ?
I cross the road when there's plenty of time to cross. Most drivers err on the side of caution and slow down but if it gets a bit hairy I can jump the rest of the way in next to no time, but I often find if I'm tired or drunk I'll stand and religiously wait for the green man even though it's quiet and when other people can walk past me and I think, "why can't I be like them?"
I always remember my dad saying its better to be 10 mins late in this life than 10 mins early in the next.
If theres kids watching I always wait for the green man, and they look at me like im stupid and cross before me.
fine, thanks - theres no need to cross whilst there are any 'transport systems' in your vicinity. Use a proper crossing, theres plenty of them, or wait till there are no 'transport systems' in view like we all were taught.
Pedestrians were on the earth before cars , and if you have to brake suddenly you are driving to fast , I live in a village and people never slow down for the zebra until the last minute ,now used to the smell of burning rubber as they brake to avoid the humble walker !!
