vets bill Mrsa do I have to pay

Can anyone out there tell me whether it is legal for a vet to charge a dogs owner for an Mrsa Infection that was contracted on their premises while the dog was having a knee operation done.

I have paid the �3,000 for the knee operation but nothing yet for the MRSA Infection, i believe they are asking for about �1,000 which was lack of care on their behalf.

Now my dog has been bitten by a Staffy, and i m scared to have the lump cut out (which i do realise will have to be done) incase he gets ill by yet a different veterinary practice. would appreciate any help or advice that you could give to me . Alaine

thats sounds crazy! they should do it free of charge and give u a HUGE appology too! if your unsure of your rights ring citezens advice burea they are very good, i dont have their number but im sure you could get it on google.

You might say that you are not satisfied with the treatment and ask for a reduction in the bill.

The bill by the way is a contract
so if you dont pay they will sue in contract
(and win it seems to me)

your counter claim (why you dont want to pay ) wd be in negligence
they were negligent and gave mydog MRSA
and you have to prove they were negligent

just saying it stands to reason ('res ipsa loquitur'), things turned out badly
probably is not enough....


DId you walk into your vet and say - you can do a �3000 op on my pooch, oh and by the way, if it turns out like I dont like, I wont pay !

and if you had, do you think they would have proceeded,
and shouted - 'this way SIR! - and bring on the dog'?

Thankyou all for posting in and advising me about whether to pay the MRSA infection bill, yes there are different views, so many too. Its so confusing trying to make up my mind about what to do. The lump from the Staffy is about the size of a plum and i called in 2 weeks ago and they said watch to see if it gets bigger. Then a week ago i took him in and they suggested operating. Scary after he s had one lot of MRSA allready.
