Do you think success is a measure of being good looking - or just through luck or hard work?

I think more attactive people get more opportunity and more tolerance than the less attractive, hard work makes a lot of difference, but generally I think a pretty face doesnt have to work as hard for peoples admiration
i agree depending on which sex, my son is a good looking guy but also a astute businessman who has been headhunted to work for company called oracle, who are so global, i would think its is hard work and tenacity that has got him thru!!

Yes - ridiculously sad isn't it? I have a friend with multi-coloured spiky hair. He's a brilliant engineer, but has lost a few opportunities because of the way he chooses to look. Another friend was pipped to the post when she went for a job interview. A pretty young girl with little experience was offered the position.
well im pig ugly and skint so the answer is clearly yes
Looks definitely help open more doors. If a person is pleasant to look at, you want to keep looking at them, especially if they have a nice smile. I know many people who have had more opportunities than they deserve die to being good looking, and also other really talented people (musicians, actors and singers) who are never going to be given the breaks because of the way they look.
Your spikey haired mate would probably do really well if he went to work in the Media or music business! Shallow isn't it?!
Some of our investigative news shows have done experiments on this and time and time again attractive, less experienced or less educated person would get the position. This was especially true with weight also.

Oprah Winfrey did a show once with models dropping papers on the street or asking for directions and repeatedly ugly or fat people were ignored and the attractive ones were all helped out. The good looking models were very surprised by this as they generally thought most people to be helpful in all areas of their lives. I guess that is because to them everyone was helpful. The "uglies" were not at all surprised by the attitude of the public.

I do think that hard work and intelligence can persevere, but it is much, much easier for thin , attractive people to have opportunities handed to them.

I have a very good looking male friend and have only recently realised that he only ever contacts me when he wants something. He is clearly so used to being able to flutter his eyelashes and get what he wants. I am just angry that i have fallen for it time after time!
