Urine test

I have been checking my blood pressure at home for some time and it has always been raised. Typically, 170/100+. (I'm 47 if that makes any difference) I have been to my doctors who has checked it and says that it should be monitored. This has been over several months. I have now started to get severe headaches and GP said i should have urine & blood tests. My blood has been taken for test and sent away but my urine was tested there and then by the nurse. She says i have a "bit of everything in my urine" and that it should be sent away for analysis. Apparently there is blood, sugar, protein and leukocytes. Don't know what levels. I have swelling of my legs/ankles but i am overweight. Tried looking it up on the internet but can't find anything that would indicate the problem. Individually i can, but i would like to know what could be wrong when you look at it collectively. I do not feel ill in any way other than these headaches which do not occur everyday nor on a weekly basis. Is it a simple kidney infection or could it be more serious. I can't wait a week to find that out!!

sounds like you have diabetes for starters and high cholestrol

Type 2 Diabetes possibly, my cholesterol is fine.

If you had a kidney/urine infection it should have been picked up from your urine sample and you would have been prescribed antibiotics. Also, it's highly likely you would be feeling unwell with this type of infection.
Has your GP prescribed any medication for your high blood pressure?
High blood pressure can damage the kidneys and a symptom of this is oedema (swelling), but this could also be due to your weight. If you do have a problem with your kidneys, this will be evident from the blood test.
It could also be one of several other things and until you get the results of your tests there is no point speculating or worrying about it.
Does your GP's surgery have a hypertension clinic? If so, they will keep an eye on your BP. Just out of interest, was your BP reading done by your GP the same level as the one you took at home?

Thank you for your response mrs overall. I had the urine tested by the nurse at the doctors. She was going to get a prescription for some antibiotics but because i feel well and have had no problems with excessive drinking or going to the loo she wanted to send the sample away for analysis. She seemed quite concerned about it. I am not too bothered about it i was just wandering what they all meant.
My reading at home for my BP was very much the same as my GP's. The whole reason for these tests was for the treatment of high blood pressure, although no tablets have been prescribed at the moment.

They are checking your urine as some kidney problems can cause high blood pressure

Thanks for your response tubeway. Does that mean if i have a kidney problem i wont need BP tablets?

Possibly not - I have a problem with my right kidney, and I am taking tablets for that and high blood pressure. As my kidney gets better (this is an ongoing problem) my blood pressure drops a bit too.
