I am a bit flummuxed here! We would like to buy a PVR that is compatable with our Sky Subscription (viewing card) or happy to take freeview if we can get Sky Sports and Sky one as a top up. Does anyone have an answer.

I think Sky+ is your only option if you want those particular channels. That'll be about 10 per month more on your basic subs or a bit less if you have the full package. More info will be on the Sky website
You can buy any hard disk recorder or dvd recorder, hook it up to your tv and record Sky channels.

Buy one with a twin digital tuner.

My appologies to pug100 for your 1 star rating you deserve a 3! so sorry. You were quite right.
I have now discovered that if you have the full sky subscription there is no longer a monthly rental for the sky + box. There is a one off fee of 129 (inc set up). So I have ordered that! Thank you.
You don't need a full subscription for free Sky+ any more, any old basic subscription will do.
