when a person has radiotherapy do they feel unwell afterwards? how many days do they have to go to have it done and how long does each session last please
I think it might differ from person to person. My friend's just finished a 6 week course of it. The only side effects were feeling pretty tired afterwards, and now she has a burning sensation in her breast. Her specialist has told her that she may have to live with this, but the sensation could weaken over time. She had to go once a week, over the 6 week period. Not sure how long each session lasted for, but I don't think it was for very long. Hope this helps a bit.
I think it will vary for each patient.
My Auntie had radiotherapy last year for breast cancer and she had it for 5 weeks everyday and it literally lasted a min or so (may even have been seconds, I can't quite remember but I know it wasn't long at all)
She said it made her feel very tired and lethargic but obviously this would be different for each person.
hiya clarabeth radiotheraphy treatment depends on the type of tumour and location to how many sessions a patient has, as ice-maiden has posted it can make the person very tired
Hi clarabeth. My Dad's experience of radiotherapy was just as Ice-Maiden describes. He felt tired and sore and this was also in his chest area. However, I agree that it will affect each person differently. The length and strength of sessions will surely depend on the type and severity of what is being treated.
I've had radiotherapy. i was told its decided on how advanced the problem is to determine length of treatment and how long the zap lasts for. i opted for morning appointments and went back to work but by 2.00pm i felt very tired. this was 3 years ago and i still feel the after effects now, but in remission., hope this helps.
I had radiotherapy last year for cancer of the spine and collar bone, I had it every day for about 2 weeks and had no side affects, I had no feeling from the waist down and was confined to a wheelchair but now I can walk so even if I had side affects it would have been worth putting up with. The treatment only lasted a couple of minutes each time and I didn't feel a thing, I've got a lot to be grateful for.
