Hi hope you can help me out with this.
I renewed my car insurance around 6 months ago and have just realised my new insurance co have been taken the wrong amount of money out of my account as they said they have not got my previous ins co letter to prove my no claims.
I did send a copy of it to them but they claim to have not received it and it gets worse I cant find the original letter from my previous ins co and for the life of me I cannot remember there name as It was not a very well known co and I have no other letters from then as threw them all out.
My question is , is there any way how I can trace who I was insured with before.
Please help as pulling me hair out trying to think of a way to do it.
Thanks......

Ask your new insurer if they can do a MID trace from a date that you were insured with your last insurer. They should only need the registration number of whatever car you were driving then, and the database will provide them with a policy number, name of the insurer and a contact number. They should be able to trace your NCB from there - and it only costs a couple of pence to do it. Hope this helps!
MID is the Motor Insurers Database - set up so that the police can check instantly whether or not a vehicle is insured (rather than wait for a HORT1 to be produced, they can impound the vehicle on the spot)
As the database is populated by insurance companies, they have access to it, and can use it to trace third parties involved in accidents, previous insurers, dual insurers etc.
Get on to your new insurers asap and ask them to do a trace - until they have proof of your no claims bonus, they'll carry on taking the higher amount!
