Dull ache from groin (left) all the way to leg
9 Answers
I do kungfu and hbeen doing so for the past 2yrs. Never had any pains, apart from the usuals aches.
About 4 weeks ago I started to get a dull ache coming from deep inside my hip/groin shooting down to the outside of my thigh and stopping on the muslce to the left of the shin. It starts to clear after a few days, and then all I have to do is sit crossed legged on the floor and it comes back.
The pain keeps me up on the first night and then dies down and goes after day 2. I cant pin point the root of the pain as it is deep inside my hip. I can lift my leg straight up, no pain, but if i lift my leg out to the side it aches more, strangely doing a stretch eases the pain this stretch: -

Has onyone any ideas what the pain could be (tendon, muslce etc)??? Thanks in advance, as its really getting me down.

Does it sound like Piraformis Syndrome to you maybe?? http://www.sciaticaclinic.com/ Either way its something causing sciatica type symptoms, so a trip to the doctors to get hooked up with a physio might be beneficial.
Most of these types of pain are "referred pain" but are actually related to the hip/spine especially as you mention sitting crossed legged where the pressure increases on your pelvis.
I would suggest seeing a good chiropractor as often a few clicks here and there work wonders after a few days. Try it, you've nothing to lose and it's better than taking drugs that just mask the pain without fixing the problem.

I had a similar problem a few years ago. Went to NHS waited weeks in pain to see a physio, they were useless and as a last resort went to a chiro who fixed the problem in 2 sessions. All that waiting in pain. Sometimes money is not the be all and end all when you are dealing ( or rather not getting treatment within 2 days )with the NHS.
