Muslims Appeal To "Christians."

Todays news - Muslim leaders from around the world have written to the pope, the archbishop of Canterbury, and other, "Christian," leaders, calling for dialogue and a greater understanding between islam and Christianity, emphasising points in common and warning of doom if they fail.

Is this not yet another step towards a one world religion as prophesied in the Bible?
I believe that it is, and taken along with the moves to closer and more centralised econonomic and financial controls, it is a sure sign that the time is ripe for international religious unity in the not too distant future.
God help us all!

Ah Jake, it won't be a stumbling block for the so called "Christian" popes and archbishops who have been banging the ecumenical drum for yonks!
The vatican has already had inter faith conferences, the first of which was in Assissi, and attended by every religion you can think of, and many you couldn't think of.
As long as there is a chance of them coming under the vatican umbrella, a way will be found with weasel words to accommodate them all.
Mark my words, I bet the response from "Christian" leaders, will be voluimnous and empty. They're good at this sort of thing you know. "All things to all men," and sod the truth.

what effect would this 'religious unity' have from a global perspective?

is this unity possible or even desirable
looking both from a financial and economic perspective?

John Paul 2 banged on about world peace wherever he went. Who can argue with a desire for world peace?
That is the bait. That is what will hook them all.
But the Bible states, "Peace, peace, there will be no peace."
The ultimate goal of the one world religion is to worship the anti-christ, the one world leader who will come to power on a manifesto of peace, but will bring war and chaos.
Todays' announcement is just another step along that road.
Can we stop it? No, but we can be aware of it and refuse to join in.

No. It is a group of religious leaders realising that a lot of the turmoil in the world is down to their lack of dialogue.

Possibly without the need for certain members of faiths to try and convert us who prefer not to have religion in our lives? (Obviously, we'd all still rib each other and have debates from time to time but that's all quite good fun).

Perhaps it is a realisation that the world has moved on and religion is failing to keep up. Religion today is what men have made it over the centuries. The original message at the centre of religion has been perverted by egotists and bigots, for their own ends.

People need faith and spiritual belief. If not in mainstream organised religion then in an alternative experience such as Buddhism or Kabbala, or Wiccan or Paganism, hence the increase in people wandering off into the sunset to �find themselves� or questioning their beliefs.

Despite the fall in church numbers and believers, there is still anger, anxiety, greed and corruption in the world. Some bemoan the state of our society, this is a moral vacuum, spiritual hunger and a lack of values. Every day the world grows more fatalistic, cynical and disillusioned, we are more apathetic, uncaring and selfish than ever and we still kill on an unprecedented scale. War is raged for no particular reason, millions killed in genocide.

There can not be only one spiritual powerhouse in the world. With the many individual preferences, cultures, ethnic backgrounds, superstitions, beliefs and way of life it is a philosophy that could never be realised. Even if there was, would atheists or sceptics join in? If not, then the factions and intolerance would still exist as would a festering hatred leading eventually to violence or a power struggle.
