Vinegar to kill nits

Someone told me that vinegar is a good deterant for nits - is this true and why?

once you have got rid of the nits a good deterent is years ago the male teachers put brill cream and the female teachers used hair spray hence how nits were kept at bay so every morning when id plat my girls hair up i would hair spray it and my sons i would gel or mouse his hair all over either can be used on the kids whatever you got nitsy dont like the chemicals bet you wont get no nits
