My husband wished to give up smoking in 1968. His doctor suggested he might try hypnosis. He did and has not smoked from that day to this. It probably doesn't work for everybody but it did work for my husband.
When I was suffering quite severly with my ocd a few years back the Psychologist at the time tried to hypnotise me. I began to get completely relaxed but not sleepy, and only aware of her voice, unfortunately at the time I had a terrible chest infection and had a coughing fit just at that point. She said that I went under very easily and that she probably would have made a bit of progress. I have no idea if it would have worked as I didn't go again.
DSJ did your husbands doctor recommend a hypnotist?
How do you find a reputable one? I dont know anyone who has tried this method. I would dearly love to stop smoking, but nothing I have tried has worked. I am weak and have no willpower. Would I be expecting too much if I said I wanted the hypnotist to stop me wanting a cigarette? Surely it is not that easy? (she asks, hopefully)
My husband's doctor (this was in Australia) recommended a realiable hypnotherapist by writing a name & address down on a piece of paper. He was not allowed to tell him verbally! I seem to recall that my husband went for two half hour sessions a week apart. It really has been brilliant & the smell of smoke makes hubby feel quite ill.
