What's the point of drugs?
28 Answers
I find it hard to understand the attraction behind drugs, mabe as i've never taken tem myself....
but is it down to peer pressure that starts ppl off, or maybe a way to escape reality or problems, or is it just sheer recklessness on the person's part?
After a point, the drug addict must come to know that the drugs are not giving them the rush like before, just making everything worse..... why dont these people seek help or go t rehab? If they know they need to do this, what's stopping them??

I don't believe this to be the case!
They cannot give up the 'high'that drugs give them so include it into their daily lives, whilst they can still afford to do so..... they sacrifice things, big things like their quality of life, children's lives, to spend money on their next high......
I have seem so many families, and potential families ruined by drugs that my view is 'just don't do it'
The greatest high is watching your children in the school nativity, sports day, pushing a swing in the park....... get out of the sleazy atmosphere that says otherwise.
Drugs take lives that are worth living, and leave you with a sham of an existence.

In moderation pills are okay, much rather have one than ten pints of stella.

What would you call moderation rev? with the varying strength and composition of pills it can vary from batch to batch. Some pills you may only need a couple but others you could take 5 to get the same effect. I suppose you would just have to start with one and see what happens.lol.
I remember reading that it isn't actually the MDMA that kills the people who have died after taking it,its either dehydration or they actually drink too much water and their kidneys can't cope with it and they go into multi organ failure.

Hi Daffy, I never got into it the first time around, but from what I can gather having spoken to people from all over the country the bulk of e is now relatively weak.
Personally between 1 and 2 does it for me and I agree with you about the old dehydration bit, alcohol kills thousands more people than pills and there is still NO evidence to suggest that ecstacy has any long term side effects. One pill or 10 pints of stella I wonder lol....

I know that round where I live it is really hard to get hold of E nowadays, coke is the drug of choice and almost everyone I know has taken it or still does, most of them are ok people from what I know and as long as what they do doesn't affect me in any way then I don't judge. I have been around people on pills or crystal MDMA before and they have usually been fun nights out.lol.I have been known to dabble myself but not for a long time.
I work with a number of drug addicts. Some simply started as recreation, following on from enjoying the buzz of alcohol, then wanting to see what the buzz of pot felt like, and it progressed from there.
Others decidedly took drugs in the hopes of escaping the world around them. Desertion, rape, torture, denigration they all played a part.
And then, there is the darkest side; the children who have been forced to take drugs, those who were constantly drugged as they were forced to commit the most vile acts of degradation. Eventually they became compliant addicts, doing anything to feed their fix.
There is not a single reason why people start taking drugs. Theres a myriad of reasons as to why people cant stop. Getting help is such a variable in this country and just about every country in the world. It requires taking the individual back to their roots and helping them to discover and rebuild their lives, then change their entire social environment. Its not impossible, but its a challenge most countries and health services cant support.
Even places where people go for self-help find there are drug dealers directly outside the door, trying to sell drugs. Its a daunting experience for anyone.
Following the standards in assistance hold very few success stories. More drastic steps have little success stories as well. Hopefully we will find an answer. Heres my own recent experience with an addict.

i have a rational fear of drugs, to me they portray theft, crime, poverty and death!
i understand that this is only for those drug addicts that do hard drugs like crack, heroin and Chrystal meths, but i find that doing coke, weed and popping a few pills can eventually lead a week person down the wrong path?
most of my friends take drugs for recreational purposes and a lot of old friends have slipped down the slope and are now living with the damaged brains or hankering around the streets looking for the next fix, these were once people who you could enjoy a laugh and a joke with, but now they are empty shells...if they are still alive?
i am not standing on a high ground with those that choose to do drugs, i am just saying they frighten me?
i asked the same question as you feist to a friend of mine who is now "clean" and he described to me how somebody gets caught up in heroin goes from a roll up to a syringe as they want an immediate hit??

In 1996 I suffered a collapsed lung and was in hospital with a chest drain in for 9 days. They gave me a patient controlled analgesia device which contained morphine. I was able to give myself a shot of morphine every few minutes if I needed to. I soon realised I was getting to like the morphine effect and was using it to help me sleep as well as take the pain away. As soon as I had my chest drain removed I insisted they remove the morphine device too. I was very frightened by the fact I was becoming dependent on it after such a short space of time.
Luckily I am a very strong minded person and have never been tempted to try the hard drugs like heroin but for weaker willed people I can see how they can fall into addiction.

Some do seek help - and find it. I engaged a Christian charity near me to cut down some trees. A band of really nice fellas turned up, mostly ex drug addicts. They were proud to explain a little of their pasts and how they have been helped by this charity. Their joy at getting treatment to come off drugs, have a roof over their heads and start getting their lives together was wonderful to see.
One made me laugh when he said 'to think, just a year ago, I was a roaring smack head!'
I am contacting this charity again soon. I am happy to put work their way and support them.

reverend you've commented on my post before bout drugs (still not tried anything but still dwelling on it!) i honestly dont think that trying pills once will do any long term damage (remains to be seen regarding regular long term use) so i dont think its dangerous, im pretty sure it'll be a good time, although obv i still dont really know what it'll be like.
so why am I and many others still so unsure bout it? just cant figure out why am so unsure bout it when i know that it wont do any real damage and it'll be a good time? dont know if you can help just always wondered that?
