Hi - Has anyone any new info since 2004? When I was small and told off for doing something silly, my usual response was, "But I thought ..." Somebody (usually a grandparent) would reprimand me with: "Do you know what Thought did? Thought wet the bed." I really need to know more about Thought. Ta.

"You know what thought did? It didn't do anything - it just thought it did".

"You know what thought did? Thought wet the bed because he thought he was awake".

That and a few variations of it are used to demonstrate the pointlessness of assuming something has been done without actually checking it.
my mum always said 'thought he had a paper round and when he looked it was a toilet roll'

its a wonder i grew up as sane as i did
We always used to say,
You know what thought did,peed in bed and thought he was sweating.
We had a few similar.

You know what thought did...
he wet the bed and thought he was swimming / sweating / drowning !

he stuck a feather in the ground and thought he'd grow a hen!

he stuck a penny in the ground and thought he'd grow a fortune!

There were more, but I can't quite remember them
I was always told 'You know what thought did, it made a mistake'
What did thought do? Planted birdseed and thought he'd grow canaries!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
