The Christian belief is that when you die you do go straight to heaven (forget about granny, aunts and uncles for the time being ;-). At a given time that only God knows Jesus will return and reign as King, and all believers living and dead will be with him.
It's difficult to get your head round this, I know, but this is how the bible says it will be.
For JTP there are numerous mentions of Heaven in the bible, but 'ashes to ashes' is not there as it's taken from the Anglican Book of Common Prayer based on Genesis 3 v 19.
Hi everyone. Going by my age I do not have much experience (with the bible or in the way of death thank God)and so as I have asked this question, it seems a bit strange to read such varied answers. I realise that Cetti (please forgive me if you are not) a Christian and so you see life as what the bible reads and take it for granted, but I believe that you take life as it comes and live for each day and only believe because YOU want to, not because your best friend has led you that way. again, i am not being critical of different thoughts, I am just being aware of what i am told. Please, no offence was meant by this.
I'm not one to blow my own trumpet :o) but my answer to a recent similar post about Hell also answers this.
http://www.theanswerbank.co.uk/History-and-Myths/Question445 08.html. And if you're interested in any further proof of the truth, look in John's gospel, chapter 8, where non other than Jesus himself, discussing the death of his friend Lazarus with the disciples, likens death to a deep sleep, from which those asleep will eventually be awakened by God's power. You might then want to ask your local priest why he belongs to a church which teaches utterly false, disgraceful and misleading things about the condition of human death.
if you study the bible, as i have you will find out that. the churches teachings of heaven and hell are wrong. the bible speaks of a great crowd of people who will be reserected to life in paradice on earth, after armagedon. it's a very involved subject. well worth looking into. it's all there in the book. Tommyc is correct!
Yes, I am a Christian and your absolutely right I do believe that Jesus speaks the truth, and is the truth - but don't runaway with the idea that I don't question a great many things because I do.
One thing that I have no doubts about is the death and resurrection of the body. This is the central message of the Christian faith.
Please don't ever apologise for asking difficult questions...my only concern is the very unusual 'facts' you are being told in your church. Don't worry though as I've attended a few very peculiar churches over the years with even more peculiar pastors/vicars and am reasonably balanced in spite of them!
