Which is more important?

If you were in a situation of complaining to the NHS about gross negligence that caused the death of your mum and were told you could go down the route of the healthcare commission which would hopefully mean those responsible would get their comeuppance and it wouldn't happen again or you could involve solicitors and sue them to get compensation what would you go for? A big payout or get the so called health professional sacked? Be honest!

im not after an arguement, nor am i stalking you. I simply have a different opinion, and am using my experience in the NHS to guide my answers to you. It is not what you want to hear, i can tell, but i really think you have been badly advised - for example if someone told you "you could go down the route of the healthcare commission which would hopefully mean those responsible would get their comeuppance and it wouldn't happen again or you could involve solicitors and sue them to get compensation " i dont know where they got that info. Also if someone told you your motherin law would have survived if she'd just have had the nodule out, i would like to meet that person, maybe they could look into the future on my behalf for the lottery numbers. Imagine if someone had operated on the nodule, and your mum had failed to come round from the anaesthetic? or she hd it taken out, but it regrew, causing her to have to have horrible chemo and then die anyway - -either of those outcomes could have happened but it seems the people who have advised you forgot to tell you that but just told yu she definately would have survived, presumably fit and healthy
look can we start again bednobs and gina I don't want to fall out with anyone I know I have sounded like a tw*t but I've been very down recently (obviously) I am not always so arsey and am actually a very nice person even if I say so myself!
bednobs we did get told the cancer could have been cured if it had have been diagnosed 2 years ago but now in our letter from the hospital they acknowledge and apologise for this saying they should have said it was treatable not curable still though this could have given her many more years of life instead I know she wouldn't have been fine and dandy. Also, the complaints dept have recently said the healthcare commission will investigate and they will get 'their knuckles rapped' so to speak or we can sue but not at the same time so as far as I was aware this is the case.
Gina once again sorry for being horrible you are well entitled to your opinion and I didn't mean to be nasty. I guess I don't know what I want at the moment apart from my mum back but that isn't going to happen

sure, no problem. Contrary to popular belief i am also a nice person :)
I really really really hope you get what you want out of whatever you do. A long time ago I used to work in the same office as an nhs complaints manager, so have had an opportunity to see things from the other side. I have also worked in cash strappd services in the nhs, which is where im coming from on the whole "money" issue, how a person or service can stand or fall on 10 000 pounds, and people die waiting, for example, for radiotherapy for cancer because they dont have the extra money that year to employ a radiographer so the waiting lists are longer
As i have said lots of times before this must be a really crap time for you and your family and im sorry you have to deal with this on top of grieving. It may be that you need to follow things to the end to get "closure" (god i hate that expression but it says what i mean!) However that end (which could be in years tme) might not be what you see it as now. The NHS do take the healthcare commision seriously, and (i think) are obliged to go by their recommendations. (although they dont usually recommend people to be sacked). At the risk of repeating myself, (or fracturing this unusual bonhommie!)i really do think it's best to go to th healthcare commission first, because this will give you a very very good idea of how successful a lawsuit might be, before you spend any money you dont have

thanks bednobs I do agree with you and want to try the healthcare commission first but then I worry that we are going to run out of time if it takes a few years to sort out and because I am so angry at the moment I do want to sue as well and don't want to be in a position in the future where we think why didn't we just sue. to be honest I personally think even down the healthcare route no one will get sacked and even if they do things like this are bound to happen again and again but the decision isn't just mine to make. thanks again
