When I lie in my bed at night and close my eyes, sometimes faces appear. I am not sleeping I am fully councous but these faces keep apearing. What is this?

this is a good question before i fall asleep - really weired things go round my head , i have weired conversations , i always thought i was the only one who had strange nite experiencesxx

this is my guess, i dont know all the science though - when you close your eyes, you see nothing, well, black atleast, or i see a variety of red and green colours! whenever your eyes lack visual stimualtion, your subconcscious makes something up, in a bizzare way, its as if your eyes get bored. faces are something we as humans see everyday, all day, all the time, no matter where we are - unless obviously alone! :P so your imagination starts to make up things, and faces are easy for your brain to do!

another way of explainingf it is when people think they can see the face of jesus in something. stare at a random enough imagine that initially looks meaningless for long enough, and your brain will eventually dicipher something that looks like a face, or something similar. there is a scientific/psychological term for this...:( but i dont know what it is!

danny, strange you mention green as this is mostly the colour I see when I see faces

whenever i close my eyes, i see black, which is obviously darkness, but also red and green, swirling around. oddly enough, if i actually look at the red and green, it seems to dissapear, if i look at the black and keep the red and green in the background as it were, it swirls about mystically! like something from a sci-fi movie. pretty much like i said before, if i keep my eyes closed for ages, then eventually things do merge together to make objects, maybe faces, but it can be anything. im yet to determine if when i see is actually a blend of these colours, or my imagination kicking in, without realising - perhaps these colours are my imagaintion in a more visual form! who knows? someone will!
