My cat (13 yrs old) keeps sneezing, but the weird thing about it is that it only occurs once every 24 hrs mainly at around 3am in the morning, it has been doing this since around Nov/Dec 2007 and it's really annoying me. Is there something that could be causing this or is there such a thing as cat flu which lasts for months and does it only cause it to sneeze once every day?
There certainly is thing called Cat Flu and its one nasty virus (in fact its a whole load of viruses). Nov and Dec 2007 wasn't so long ago so its possible that your cat is still managing to fight off a strain of it. Ive recently had 6 of my 12 cats come down with it. 4 of them had a really bad time with runny eyes and noses and lots of sneezes and had to have anti-biotics and eye drops while the other 2 cats got away with the occasional sneeze for a week or two. Failing that, where is the cat usually at 3am in the morning? in the bedroom? on the bed even? could be dust mites and cats do sometimes begin suffering from various allergies that they didn't have when they were younger. If I was you I'd keep a close eye on the situation and if the sneezing gets worse or the eyes become watery then get to the vets as soon as possible as Cat Flu can be particularly nasty in both very young cats and elderly cats.
i forgot to ask you a question. Before he sneezes do you wake him up by tickling his nose with a feather just before this happens? If you do we could be on to something
My cat Lucy is a she, and no i don't do anything to it before it sneezes, i have a cover on top of my bed which it lies in between every night and at about 3am it just sneezes the once then that's it till the same time next morning, which can't be right as how would it know the time?
