My boyfriend's dad suffered a stroke two weeks ago. It was a large stroke but he is showing improvements (face looking much more like usual, some feeling in his arm). He is bored and depressed at being in hospital (especially as he has a bug at the moment) but on visits his spirits are generally high (making jokes and laughing). Does anyone know what we can expect from the speech and physiotherapy ie what does it involve? His first session just seemed to consist of putting him in a chair to see if he could sit comfortably (he couldn't).

Hi jkkerr sorry to hear about your boyfriend's dad, strokes are a massive thing to cope with for both the sufferer and their loved ones. My father in law had 2 strokes, one being massive a week before Christmas. He lost use of his leg, arm and his speech was badly affected, the prognosis was he would be in hospital at least 12 weeks and his recpvery would be slow. He was actually discharged on Tuesday, with little notice because he had made some progress and he was complaining so much. Speech and Physiotherapy was limited during the holidays but he was given several exercises to do throughout the day. I think now hes home there will be therapists visiting him there.
