I never understand why so many people hate emos? Could somebody explain what it is that we did to get everybody to hate us so much?

I dont think anyone HATES them per sae -think its just the general ethos attached to them and unforunately some are like lemmings and follow the doctrine.
Its like a youth 'cult' -I am more disturbed than anything else TBH -I am just thankful that my 2 are past the stage of being influenced by some of the extreme teachings/thoughts.
O shadow -you will get my drift then and if you dont I pity ya -seriously. x

Goth, hippy, punk, mod, rocker, skinhead.... it is a sad state of affairs really, when you hit that certain age (16) and you feel you suddenly have to join a little club to sum up what you ARE. Then 2 years later you have outgrown it. It is the same as babies who do x at 3 months and then have tantrums at 2, and kids who go through another stage at 6. It is a growing up thing. Teenagers who decide they want to "rebel" so they wear black etc. I find it funny- we have all been there. But the teenegers think they are the first person to ever go through it, and that they are completely unique by dressing the way they do, and by listening to whatever music goes with the tag.
Why not start up completely different phase. Invent a new word and a new way of dressing! That would be great. see how many followers you get- if any. I mean, there would have had to have been the first emo at some point.

All the emos I have ever seen/met can't see where they're going because they have their hair covering their eyes/face in a ridiculous way. None of them ever look cheerful and all they seem to do is write sad poetry and tell everybody how depressed they are. I apologise if I've offended anyone (I am after all expressing my own opinion) but I'd like emos just to cheer up a little - they think they're so hard done by when they mostly have no reason to be so glum! But then I guess if they were all happy, smiling little souls then 'emo' wouldn't quite fit their description! And please don't anyone tell me that all teenagers are generally depressed - my 17 year old certainly isn't!

I don't have any problems with emos. Except for the fact that everyone has their problems/teenage angst, but most people seem to manage with them without having to dye their hair black and look grumpy all the time, and making such a statement that they get this reputation for being surly and a bit macabre (I think I've spelt that right) and then they get confused with 'goths' (I'm a bit iffy on that one as well), and thus the prejudice is complete and people think that they are bad people. Plus there's the fact it's like you take a 'goth' and force it to breed with a 'skater' and 9 months later an emo is born! But that may just be personal. I was never allowed to be a goth, maybe I have some repressed issues. I should become an emo! Thank you for opening my eyes to where I have been going wrong all these years!
There is a vast chasm between Emos and other tenage 'cults/movements/influences' mentioned before.
The big difference is that it has become a cult and some vulnerable teenagers will succumb and become indoctrinated and if anyone out there thinks this is a sweeping statement -then sorry you are like Emus-just be glad its not your child cos if were mine and they also had emotional issues then I would be seriously worried.
I only have to mention the spate of teenage suicides in Bridgend Wales -not sensationall -sad fact for the families involved -and as far as the Police trying to play it down (for obvious reasons)-they are all linked to other on line pages
10 suicides in a small town -helllloooo!!
I shall go and check my facts and rectify any discrepancies as it is a serious topic..
