withdrawal of citalopram
5 Answers
Hi, im on 10mg of citalopram and have been for a yr and a half. I am wanting to have a baby and when i went to the docs he told me i need to come off citalopram. Was terrified as i suffered from a panic disorder and cant go through that again. However i have been taking 10mg every other day for 9 days so have halfed my dose and im doing ok. Do you think that may mean i will be ok when i stop them altogether? Im taking a tablet every other day for 4 weeks. Then reducing further.

Did you know you can get the liquid version of Citralopram? Many people reducing prefer that as they can measure out small accurate doses. If you find your starting to struggle tell your gp you need the liquid. Lots of people feel fine after becoming Citalpram free but lots of others dont. It all depend on the individual. Good luck.

snt79 - citalopram is a fairly safe drug to take for panic attacks. depression & crying, etc., but to get off them, they have to be tapered carefully, under a doctor's instructions. If you do this very slowly, you should be fine once you're off them, but personally, i'd wait a while before thinking of having a baby, to see whether you can stay off this medication first. Also, babies are notorious for causing panic attacks - the very thing you could do without! Feel well in yourself, and then think about a family once you know you'll be able to cope. All the best - x
It is a different question. My first question was before i went to the docs and i was asking if anyone knew whether id be ok taking half a tablet a day (5mg). This question is after ive been to the docs, he suggested taking a tablet every other day which ive been doing for 10 days and doing ok. So i was just asking if anyone knows if that means im gonna be ok when im totally off them. Im just scared, thats all.
