I am feeling the need to cleanse my soul before I can continue my day, so please bear with me while I rant away!!
It is considered rude to talk on your phone while at a checkout, I agree I do think this is rude and I wouldn't do it! But is it not just as rude for the cashier to ignore you??!! Last night I was in tesco and the chavtastic, bubble gum popping twelve year old girl was soo freaking rude! She spent the whole time turned away from me talking to her equally charming collegue!! Only spoke to me once, to ask for my id!!! Which she checked then went back to her very important conversation (apparently 'Donna was like totally flirting with my Jim on friday night, I'm telling ya if she does it again I'll have something to say, ya know what I mean? Yah'.)
Sorry but I just found it very rude, and didn't appriciate being served by the back of someone's greasy head, while they scanned and practically threw my shopping!!

She even ran across the car park after we'd left to give my mate her fiver change she'd left in machine.

flippin complain. I hate it hen they talk to their mates or they look at you like a bit of something stuck to your shoe, just because you picked there checkout. I have emailed Tesco and Sainsbury's about there 12 year old staff and had vouchers out of it so COMPLAIN. Apparently us Brits don't complain enough so go for it.

hi mistys, if me i would complain to their managers.
i havnt been treated very rudely by a bus driver last time, and very embarassing as well, when i asked him question, he just ignored me in front of other passengers, when i got off the bus, i dialed the complain line imediately and got appologise letter from the bus company in the end.

I find this too and just huff and puff and get myself annoyed but I should do something about it. I dont look for them to be chatty but just not ignore. There is a lot of rudeness about these days people not holding door or people dont acknowledge the fact I held the door open for them. I gave a little old lady my seat on the bus the other day - while a group of teenage boys took up more seats than they needed. Of course I got them to move for me! Also people just are not friendly. I have just joined a new gym and although not there to chat if I catch someones eye in passing I would smile - people just glare at me, so unfriendly!

I use this very simple solution. Just say to them quite loudly (never shout) "Excuse me but are you serving me or talking to your friend" You will then find that this is reacted to with either a glare or a sigh or both. Your response is then "It is no use sighing/glaring at me I am only asking you to do what you are paid to do." You will feel better honest.. Then when you get home complain by e-mail and wait for your coupons.
My other pet hates are:

"Thattsthirtytwopoundseightythreepencedoyouhaveanectarcardareyoucollectingtheschoolvouchers" To this I quite simply reply "Yes and Ionly have one pair of hands"
My other hate is the self service checkouts being used by morons. Which bit of the voice saying "Please place the item in the bagging area" sounds like "Please continue holding the item in your hand whilst trying to scan your next item, then when nothing happens look around you with a look of disgust on your face like the machine is stupid and is not working properly?"
If I had my way you should have to take a test before you are allowed to use these things. If you pass the test the data on your loyalty card is updated. Everybody will then have to scan their card before attempting to use the self service. If you have not passed or taken the test you are refused access to the check out and then to your eternal shame you are frogmarched out of the shop with all the supermarket staff pointing at you and chanting "stupid, stupid".
(If you do not have a loyalty card shop at Asda with the rest of the pikeys.)

Oh I'm glad I'm not the only one feeling the cashier anger!!!
I am going to email them to complain later, but I didn't get her name so not sure they will be able to slap her round the back of the head, or whatever it is they do to employees when they are rude...!

My brother works at Tesco and he gets so much hassle from customers who he always asks "would you liek any help" and smiles. Hes had a warning for having "dirty finger nails" when he didnt even have dirty nails! a customer complaining! and then a lady accused him of pushing her down the moving platform thingy when all he did was say excuse me walked pass and caught her basket with his elbow. Makes me sick how my bro works for �3 an hour is VERY helpful and kind and some trampy old lady puts him through a disciplinary which could cost him his job because he didnt double bad her banana's!!!!! WHY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BE POLITE AND YOU WILL GET POLITE SERVICE IN RETURN!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes whilst frustrating for customers sadly the door swings both ways and there is liitle if any provision for staff to complain about customers. Many many moons ago when I was working part time for a well known fast food franchise beginning with M (for around �3/hr) I was told by the manager that the customer is always right.
I'm sure this is often the case but I began to wonder as the insults and abuse rained in, especially on one glorious afternoon when I was referred to as an f****g C*** for not having pound coins available as change in my till!!
Also with regards to the intelligence of the person serving you in the supermarket or shop its unfair to make assumptions.

When you put in your complaint, tell them the day, date, and approx time you were served.
If you paid by credit or debit card or used your clubcard, then they can pinpoint exactly which till you went through and who served you.
Tesco management take complaints like this quite seriously, but it wouldnt happen at all if they didnt employ such young morons in the first place
Always complain but its better to do it at the time, and if your not satisfied by what they say, then take it further.

Def complain - unless its highlighted to the store that this is happening no one will know and nothing will happen. imagine if you were a mystery shopper the store would of scored so badly. Its not a lot to ask for. I love mystery shopping and will always be honest, I've been one store and the staff were amazing and this is what I reported back, on the other hand I've been places where its really bad and have reported this back as well.
On the other side - staff can't always complain about customers and yes the customer is always right - but that's the nature of the business, perhaps staff who can't cope need better training from the company on customer service. I advise staff to always be polite and calm no matter how irrate a customer becomes, often this will make the customer calmer and feel silly for being so angry. The �3 an hour is below minimum wage, and that person should check this further.
I was raised to be polite to people, hold doors open, give up my seat etc etc and I retain this values and feel its such an important thing, young people today aren't taught these values which is a real shame, equally older people don't always say thank you when you do things.
