I cant believe I don't know but what sort of places do ear piercing - my 8 year old daughter is keen but the only listings in Yellow Pages locally are for Body Piercing/Tattoo Parlours...

Any suggestions?

Some jewellers do ear piercing and Claire's Accessories used to but I don't know if they still do.
do you have a " Clare's " on your high street? You know - they sell girly hair stuff and sparkly things.
I think some jewellers do them too. x
If I had an 8 year old daughter I would take her to a reputable piercer, I've seen some unlevel piercings from Clare's.

Thanks for the info - am taking her for a girly day out tomorrow to Brighton so will try a few Jewellers there - there is a Claire's too but maybe will use that as a last resort....
I did mine myself when I was 12 with a big darning needle - wouldn't even consider it now....and yes my mum did go mad!

I'd agree with Goodsy in that I would go to a reputable tatto / peircing place, but can understand you mightn't want to take an 8year old there.

When I was 4 my mum had mine done at Debenhams, don't know if they would still do it? And when I was a teenager and had extra holes in my ears some of the local hairdressers did it, so it might be worth checking with them too.
I never really had to consider this before, but what age to girls usually get their ears pierced? When I read this, I though 8 seemed really young, but I have no idea what the norm is...
Well I live in Brighton - there are loads of places. Most hairdressers do it I think.

I would say that I think 8 is too young. I only let my daughter have hers done when she turned 13. Children grow up far too quickly these days.
i thought that as well - but better than babies having them done!! hate seeing that!
I had to wait until i was 14 to get mine done....
Remember she will have to be responsible for tuerning them and cleaning them- can be a bit painful!
An 8 year old can tell you what she wants, you can explain to her about the pain and she can help to care for them herself. I had mine pierced at 4. I moaned and moaned and moaned for a long time to get them done even then.

My 8 year old sister recently had her ears pierced and she has looked after them very well.

Oh dear - should have been prepared for this is suppose!

She is very sensible and level-headed and has proved herself responsible in the past. She is articulate enough to explain why she would like to have her ears pierced and I see no harm in allowing it to go ahead.

LiquidSpace - thanks for your thoughts - any more specific ideas other than loads of places do it in Brighton - a bit of local knowledge would be good.

Many thanks,

Tizzy
I took my niece to a beauty salon at The House Of Fraser to have her's done. We had 2 people do both ears at the same time, which was her idea.
My sons had theirs done at our local chemist.
Who also supplied ointments and such.
Both my daughters had their ears pierced when they were babies. It did them no harm at all.
I actually got mine done at the mall. It sounds bad but they did a great job! Just go to icings or claires and they usually have people there offering to do it. It's also really inexpensive.
is she allowed to wear them at school?
Would it not be worth waiting until the start of the summer hols? That way they will have healed by september x
I havn't seen this in Brighton but I saw someone getting her ears pierced in Clare's accessories. I got mine done when I was a teenager at H Samuels. You can pop into them and ask or look in their window for a sign.

Hello
Thanks for all the comments - ears are now pierced - found a hairsalon advertising "painless" piercing although I think Miss Tizzy would dispute this judging by her white face after the first ear......

My 6 year old granddaughter who has Muscular Dystrophy and is wheel chair bound, has just had her ears pierced. Her reason for wanting them done was that she is starting primary school and because she is rather small she feels the earrings will make her look more like the same age as her schoolmates. I agree with her completely...anything to boost her self confidence .

I think it is entirely up to the parents of any little girl to decide when
Whoops pushed send too quickly...

...entirely up to the parents to decide at what age their daughter should have pierced ears.
