im 13 years od and weigh 11 stone im quite worried about this as my other friends are all thiner than me. i find this really depressing and dont go out any more because im scared people look at me and think im fat. i have thought about not eating for a week even though i no this is very unhealthy and you only lose a couple of pounds. but atleast ill lose wait and i am sure that i wont put this wait back on. i no you will say eat less more exercise but im not good with exercise at all. i just want to lose weight fast and i find not eating for a week is the only way. by the way how much weight do you think you would lose without eating for a week but drinking plenty of water? Thanks.

I have a mini-trampoline in my bedroom and they're not too expensive (or you may have a mum/aunt who'd let you borrow theirs). If you only used it 10-15 mins every day it would make you feel better (exercise creates endorphins - make you feel good!). Don't skip meals as you'd only put any weight lost, back on again when you resume eating normal amounts. I know it sound boring, but just try to substitute sweets/crisps/etc for fruit/nuts etc. Losing weight fast is not the answer. Speak with mum and I'm sure she'll help to encourage you to eat healthy portions etc. If you really need to lose weight, just aim for a few pounds at a time and pass each stage, don't try to do it all at once. Good luck
You might lose about half a stone Josie,,, but you will also lose a lot of essential minerals and vitamins from your diet. Your metabolism will slow right down (which happens because your body thinks you are going into starvation mode) and your skin, eyes and hair might appear lank and listless.
You would do much better to go for a good walk every day, uphill a bit if you can, but definitely get out into the fresh air and try to eat stuff like fruit and vegetables rather than heavy carbs. Do you have (or know) a dog you can take for a walk, you never know who you might meet on your walks - lots of other nice interesting people take dogs for walks and they all have something in common with other (and dogs don't care what you look like lol). You say you're not good at exercise but what sort of exercise have you been doing ? You need to find something you LIKE doing !
PS Good friends don't actually care what you look like, they are more interested in what you are like as a human being - and you sound like a nice one !.

Hi Josie
Very good advice above and I haven't really got much to add other than to say that not eating for a week (or however long) is not the way to do it.
You WILL put the weight back on the second you start to eat normally again. To keep it off you would have to keep starving yourself which is a fast track way to an eating disorder and you definately don't want one of those. Did you see Nikki Graeme from Big Brother on TV recently? She suffered from anorexia which nearly killed her and she now has serious health problems like osteoporosis. I'm not trying to scare you, this is the reality of eating disorders.
You don't have to excercise as such, just keep moving. As an example, I am a complete couch potato who never moves from my desk/settee/bed and (unsuprisingly) I am overweight. I have a mate who eats what the heck she likes but never sits still, she is always cleaning or tidying up or doing some activity. Needless to say, this keeps her way thinner than me, even though we eat pretty much the same. She drives me nuts but the constant activity keeps her metabolism at a higher level than mine which means she burns off the excess calories whereas my body stores them as fat, 'cos I'm a lazy cow basically!
Just make sure you eat healthily (cut out chocolate, crisps and junk food where possible) and keep busy! You can allow yourself a treat, don't deny yourself completely.
And I completely agree with juggerling, real mates won't care what you look like, although I understand that you may not be happy in yourself.

I've hardly eaten a thing this week because of feeling a bit low.
My hair is a mess, my eyes are black, my skln doesn't feel normal and I'm incredibly tired. Have I lost weight? No idea but I do know that I look like ***** and it's not helped me in feeling any better at all. Hence my resolve to start eating properly again. it's all a balance.

Hey, Im 17 and i had the same problem when I was around 12 or 13 years old. I always had alot of puppy fat even though I didnt eat a huge amount. It made me feel depressed and different to my friends who were also very skinny. After trying different things including just not eating or eating a very small amount I realised that the only thing that would work was eating just the amount I needed to be healthy and by exercising... I dont like exercising in public so I started doing situps at home by putting my feet under a chair or sofa and increasing the amount I did every week until I would be doing about 100 a day. I'd also try dancing around to music and exercising at the same time (for example, star jumps etc) make it fun. It really does work and over time I lost my puppy fat and i'm now quite happy with my body. The good thing is im now curvy unlike my skinny friends. Don't get too down about it but not eating definatly wont work. Just give it time and alot of effort, try keeping a diary of your diet and reward yourself occasionally. Good luck :) xxxxxxx
Don't think of exercising as boring hours in the gym or at home.
Go out and ride your bike.
Take walks, try to walk fast for some of the distance.
Take stairs instead of lifts and escalators.
Eat sensibly, not nothing, but 'good food' vegetables and fruit, don't starve yourself, don't deny yourself all sweets either, just be sensible about it.
And most of all: Start to like yourself the way you are!
There is always room for improvement, for everybody, but you are you, you are unique, if you are intelligend and funny, if you are a good friend, a good listener, a good advisor, that has nothing to do with your weight.
People that cannot see past the outside are not worth being your friends!

Hiya Josie,
Your only 13, at this age you are still carrying "puppyfat".
Try and make yourself more active, i.e: instead of going home and going on your computer, clean your room (it might shock your parents but you will be active and in time will help with your metabolism). try and drink water, or juice instead of coke, diet coke is ok in moderation, but juice is much better. try doing different activites such as ice-skating, bowling, going for a walk with friends. The worst thing you can do is skip meals, this will not aid weight loss and may actually prevent it! Get yourslef into a routine, have breakfast when you wake up, this doesnt have to be cereal, try a smootie, you can use whatever fruit you like, add some orange juice so its not too thick, or milk with strwberries and bananas. try to limit snacks, such as crisps, chocolate, fast food. Try not to diet, your too young.. Just eat sensible, apples, oranges, salads, jacket potatoes etc..... and drink lots of fluid, especially water as this will help flush your system....
good ;luckx

When you stop eating your body goes into survival mode. Your metabolism (fat burning process) actually slows down. That means the energy you will burn will be from your muscles and not fat.
When you start eating again your body will jump at the opportunity of taking everything it can from that and you will end up putting on loads of weight.
It is likely that you do have some puppy fat but most importantly eat a balanced diet - find some fruit or vegetables that you do like, and also try to find something active that you enjoy doing... it neednt be going to the gym cos it sounds like that will only bore you... but find something you enjoy doing to keep you active
