my lovely mum turns 60 next month, and the family are putting money together to get her a ballon ride, I would also like to get her something small from me, but I don't want to upset the others (not that I'm close to them)
Thoughts please!

I would get her something small and tasteful from a jewellers, something like a really nice brooch or necklace- the sort of thing she would like! But give it to her on your own or you may upset the others.
hi cheekystar,
your mum will love the balloon flight, we went up in one for my mums 50th and it was fantastic, really lovely it was. we landed in a corn field just as the sun was setting and we were all given a glass of champagne.
i think scarletts idea of a small piece of jewellery is a good idea, maybe a little pretty pendant or something..?
theres some lovely little gem stone necklaces around, maybe you could choose one that is her birth stone?
hey, just a thought, i treated myself to a lovely little heart pendant a while ago, from argos, it was only 20, but its really pretty and ive had lots of compliments about it as its such a lovely colour, and as it happens its the may birth stone, emerald, the same as your mums.
have a look if you get chance, they do the full jan to dec range birth stones, but the pics in the catalogue dont do them justice, so try and nip in the shop if you can as theyre much better in real.
i hope your mum has a lovely birthday, it sounds like it will be one she will remember!
let us know what you buy her :o)
Argh both my parents are 60 this year and I have no idea what to get them! My dad's present would be easy but my cousins bought their dad (my dad's brother) the same thing when he turned 60 two years ago, and my dad went along as a guest so now I can't buy him that. It doesn't help that they are the two most annoyingly hard people to buy for!
Sorry, know that doesn't help your dilemma Cheeky ;)
Same problem here, its my nan and grandads 50th wedding anniversary this year, and with both of their 70th birthdays being last year, we now have no idea what to get them. What do you buy a couple that have everything?

Let me know if you think of anything, I may just steal your idea ; )
mj8,
how about rallying round friends and family for some memorable photos, especially of days gone by, say of their wedding day, birthdays, kids, grand children, holidays, days out etc etc etc and putting them together onto one of those digital picture frames?!
i bet theyd love that as older folk love looking back and reminiscing about the 'old times' dont they and are always proud to show off their special memories.
you can fit loads of pics and even video clips on to them plus some of their favourite pieces of music too if you wish to (i think).
it was just an idea, but i do think thatd make a lovely prezzie for them both mj8 :o)
Thank you soooo much looby, that is exactly the thing they would love (hearts on sleeves and all that).

Would your mum like something like that cheeky?
Hey Cheeky,

For my Mum's 60th my auntie made up a spoof cover of Hello magazine with lots of pictures of my Mum.

It was really good and she loved it.

Lots of pictures of her from birth onwards.

What about a gold "MUM" necklace? thats if she has'nt got one aready. Im having a "do" for my 60th in June and one of those pamper things in an hotel. Cant wait for my buspass..LOL
On my 60th my family got together to give me a surprise party - my daughter took loads of pictures of all the guests and had an album made, it's mainly for me but the whole family enjoy it too. Maybe you could take lots of pictures of your Mum going up in the ballon.
hey, thats a good idea banjo lol.

moonpig.com are excellent for personalised greetings cards. ive had a few done from them and theyre brilliant.
you go online and choose the style of card you want and you can add names, dates and verses etc etc to the card, inside and out, whatever you want really, even photos.

i had one made up congratulating my bro and wife on the birth of their first little baby last year. it was a real keepsake as i had all millies details included in the card like date, weight etc, it was sooooooooooooo lovley when it arrived, really professional looking and of excellent quality.
i had one done for my friends 40th too, done as a front page of a magazine, like banjo stated with hello magazine, with her photos on the front and headlines to match.
and i also had one made up for my brother and wifes first wedding anniversary, with a photo of them both on their wedding day including their names and dates etc. it was great.
their cards are perrrfick, i really do reccommend them, theyre brilliant quality, very reasonably priced and theyre better than shop bought cards any day because of their uniqueness!! - lovely for special occasions.
I don't know what to suggest that you buy or get your Mum, but one thing is for sure.
Your relationship with her will one day be gone and you will regret for the rest of your life not doing with or for her what you want.
Within reason and to yourself forget what the res think or want. Go along with your heart or repent at leisure.

Thank you all for your answers, she's not really a jewellery person, but I will def get her something just from me.
Paul thanks for your words, she's very special to me and we're very close even tho we love 160 miles apart.
Photo's etc she likes but has lots, I need to find something which reflects how special she is to me!!
Went shopping yesterday at The Range and found something else. Its a massage cushion that can go on any chair, omg its brilliant, they had one out and I had a go, its great! Its about 50 but worth every penny. Im going to get one for my nan and grandad.
Heres a list of stores.
