I have not been happy at work for a very long time. I am currently signed off with stress. I am seriously considering leaving this job altogether and would appreciate any advice.

We all work because we have to and many of us have financial responsibilities. Jobs these days are harder to come by and not knowing your circumstances its hard to provide comprehensive advice but what I would first consider is, whether there are any opportunities for you to move within the same company?

I am currently in a job I love but the stress and pressures are huge, today I've applied for another job, in an area that doesn't exactly float my boat but the stress is much reduced. I am going for the new job because long term stress is extremely damaging to your health and life is too short.
Unless you can reduce the stress in the job you do, I would suggest you look for something else.
You work to live not live to work.

i think i would like to agree with some of the responses,
i currently work 72 hours per week and can cover my expenses and liabilities,
i enjoy the job and it pays quite well, it is a bit stressful but you dont generally get well paid for a bog standard boring stressless job,
stress keeps the mind active and the blood pumping,
anyway thanks for the advice, im off to the dole office to sign on.... stuff the job.....
for those of you working... i will keep you posted about what i spend your money on

My husband had the job from hell - I posted something on here a while ago about it! He was so stressed and so upset and the most miserable he's ever been in his life. We both decided it would be best to "get by" rather than him dreading getting up in the morning. He didn't even enjoy weekends because he was thinking about having to go back to work. If you hate it that much, I'd definitely say leave. Good luck!
