STI tests - quick answer

i've got it into my head that i've got an sti from over 6 years ago, because i'm having problems conceiving, and i'm just panicking now thinking of everything that could be wrong with me... i'm going to the nurse tomorrow for blood tests, will she give me an sti test, or do i have to pay for it privately?
can it stay in my system and still be picked up after all this time?

Sorry but I don't think STIs cure themselves!! If you did catch something then unfortunately unless you get it treated you can still pass it on. I think this is the reason it's free to get tested!
Good luck for your results, hope they come back clear, totally unfair for you to pay for past mistakes now but sometimes that's the way it goes :(

As SaintAleia said, they generally don't cure themselves, but can lead to PID (Pelvic Inflammatory Disease). This can cause infertility.

If you are concerned about a STI, then you can ask your nurse to do swabs, but she will probably only to check for Chlamydia.

The best place to go for all the tests is at a GUM (Genito Urinary Medicine) clinic. They will test for all types of infections, including HIV and Syphillis, (if requested). These tests are all free and confidential.

Ideally, you should have a sexual health check up every year, if you are sexually active.

There are many reasons for having difficulty conceiving and you could be worrying unnecessarily.

Well done for having the tests though - they will be free, and the results usually take a week or so.
