I think its very easy to take things for granted, I do it all the time, I try not too but only when something happens I realise how much for granted I have taken things.
recently my car was written off, whilst I had the car I would moan about it generally, once it was gone and I had to replace it I struggled to find one that was as good, making me realise how much I didnt appreciate it to begin with
Otherwise its an overused overrated statement used apologetically after the fact in a feeble attempt to either talk someone round or to console yourself for being selfish selfcentered and thinking of noone else except yourself.
Until you are put in a position where you do.
Things can happen in your life to make you realise what you really have. May be it's a comparison / illness / someone elses misfortune? It is however human nature to take things for granted, that's life! xx
There's not a day goes by that I don't appreciate my family and try to show them how much they mean to me.
It is easy to take people for granted but if there's one thing I've learned through my life it's that nothing lasts for ever so be glad of what you've got.
I dont think its human nature to take things for granted more a concious decision that you are more important than the thing that you take for granted .
Too many people regret after the fact , when they knew at the time they were wrong but did what they did bloodyyminded and hang the consequences. Then in the aftermath the reghrets and realisations appear.
I agree I have taken things -well people for granted -a lot of 'what ifs'- but at the end of the day you cant be all things for all people -so you cant live with regrets -they just eat you up.I learned the hard way as others have as well I have no doubt.
Thank you for your answers. I think it is basically true, I also think it's because you get used to things, they become part of your 'normal'.
I think people are basically selfish. It is not until you have children that you have to think of someone else before anything else at all. It then makes you realise how selfish you are and hopefully change.
As it is not possible to follow our partners to work or our children to school, I'm sure most of us spend as much time as we can with our families as real life and commitments allow.
But, yes, there do appear to be some people who appear to spend too much time on here.
Sorry, I should have said - some people spend more time on here than i would like to do, although there have been times when I've been on a lot - not, posting just browsing.
Not everybody is lucky enough to have their families and friends close by them, or may be unable to get out much, or just lonely. In which case, suppose there's no such thing as too much time on here - whatever floats your boat.

Do you know the answer?
Do you think you really can appreciate something whilst you have it?
