A friend on mine's father has been diagnosed with 3 separate cancers (lung, chest and kidney).

He is having an operation to remove a lung and chest tumour soon then will go onto chemotherapy.

Does anyone know about the kind of support that might be available for him and for his wife to provide some respite for her as she has been through a very traumatic time recently due to other family deaths.

They are in the Knowsley area of Merseyside.

Very grateful for any help or tips to help the family get through this x

I find that some help lines just have people to talk about it with that havent been through the same problems. So maybe a chat room to share things with others that have experienced it first hand might help. Theres a few

Hope he can get through it all ok. My bloke had it 5 years ago, unfortunately now it may have come back but dont know yet. I;m sure your friend is also grateful to have you. xx

there's a marie curie hospice connected to the liverpool royal hospital i believe, and i'm pretty sure they'll have a referral to the macmillan nursing service too, once chemo is started. once they're properly in the system i think you'll find there will be lots of support from the various agencies so try and reassure them that there are things out there which will help them through this. you might also want to have a look at the macmillan share forums, lots of help, advice and personal stories.

Yes, I'd agree with 4getmenot and ethandron. Your friend's GP can help with getting in contact with MacMillan - they will give a lot of support. Also, tell your friend to contact CancerBacup (they have a website, just Google it). A lot of the bigger hospitals have care services for cancer sufferers and their family, too, so once the wheels are put in motion for your friend's dad, I'm sure you'll find that there's a lot of help and support available out there.
