This woman shopped her sons to the police for beating up a man. Did she do the right thing? Could you shop a loved one to the police for a crime they committed?

I would do it, my opinion is that your child is your responsibility no matter what age - that means the bad and the good I'm afraid.

I do not quite agree with your reason why though. If you have any information about a violent crime you should help to get the culprits regardless of whether it is your child, partner, best friend or relation.

Parental duty is not the sole reason for acting on your conscience.

I would hand anyone in if I knew they had committed a crime Gromit not just family. I stand by the saying; 'If you can't do the time don't do the crime'.

I would do it. I would probably feel guilty doing it but just as guilty for the family of the victim.

I too would turn them in - but then I do work for the police and this is the ethos we try and promote!

Whether she did or not she should have give them an ultimatum first to confess their crimes to the police themselves.

I agree that regardless of them being family or not, if you knew someone was responsible for a crime, you should report them - even if it's anonymously.

And yes, sp1214 I think she should have given them an ultimatum (she may have done, I don't know), and of course report them herself if they did not confess to the police.

However, as a mum myself I imagine it would be a very difficult scenario. Also this poor woman has the wrath of her family to deal with. Some family they are, wanting to protect those two pieces of s*** and ostracising her.

First of all I believe it is parent's duty to give good discipline and training to their children from the word go. No one become a criminal over night apart from odd on the spot things which can turn into any thing.

Once you have done your bit to show them the right way then yes if my child would do something which would be against the sensible law of the land and which would bring anarchy in the society then I would not hesitate a bit before handing him to he police myself. Reason is that if I would not do that then I can not expect others to do that either and then how can I expect justice?
