I have searched high and low to find a supplier of crushed horticultural charcoal. Can anyone direct me to a supplier within the UK who can send me about 1Kg.

Stick with the semi-inert vers and pers and you won't go far wrong.
You could try http://www.merck-chemicals.com/is-bin/INTERSHO P.enfinity/WFS/Merck-International-Site/en_US/ -/USD/ViewProductDetail-Start?ProductUUID=3P6b .s1OpXEAAAEWwQQW4z70&*****************=&Online Flag=1&PortalCatalogUUID=Uc6b.s1LfzAAAAEW6tYfV hTl,they list it,alternatively you might get it on special order from Boots or other major chemists
